Major roadworks at a big Junction near my house are due to start 14th May. It's now 19th May with no sign of machinery or traffic cones.
I guess they are at the 'standing around with hands on hips, shaking their heads while sighing and tutting' stage of things.

Easy, but no, let them stew without contact. They'll be sure to leave a positive review, especially if you're consistent.

There are times I miss J's righteous wrath. I hated being the recipient, but she was fantastic at angrily getting up slack tradies not doing what they were paid to do.
Me, I'm really pissed off. System works, mostly. They made mistakes. That's ok, just fix them, & don't create more issues. "Leave it with me".
So... I've just sent a gentle text about a range of issues, which are all STILL at "leave it with me" status, despite ranging from 1-6mths old, & I feel sick & shaky.

Once again, I need tradies to do some electrical work.
Once again, I've contacted a few for quotes, and only one has bothered to reply. Well technically two, but an email telling me they'd be in touch, followed by silence doesn't really count...
🤷♂️ Sigh. But what would I know? I'm not a business owner whose livelihood is dependent on getting back to people seeking to employ me.

Trees lopped, mess cleaned up. Weirdly, they just finished, packed up, & left. Not even "We're done mate, see ya". Nothing obvious wrong with the job, making it odder. 🤨
I was going to ask if I paid the quote/invoice or they send a final invoice, because they also wisely removed a small tree likely to fall on next door's boat - hollow base & a huge lean (got my ok to do it yesterday).
I guess I'll wait a few days & see.🤷♂️ Mind you, I haven't checked the boat...

They are on 6pm-6am. So far, they had a group meeting, all the fellows in high-vis tops, probably about how they could make the most noise.
I think they decided that the best idea was not to turn off the beeping noise off the reversing vehicles.

There's a large builder's #skip near our house for a #reno across the road. Been watching on and off as various non-builder items appear in it; two shopping trolleys[1], a fire extinguisher, a few bags of household garbage
Most amusing was yesterday 6.30am, two #tradies for the build turned up, then furtively pulled up a bunch of plasterboard, transferred three big bags from car boot to skip, then covered it all back up with plasterboard, then waited around until 7am and started work
Place your bets: stolen shit? asbestos? garbage from home?

Have a couple of #tradies doing some work in the backyard which is generating quite a bit of noise.
This has created a massive dilemma for my cat, who cannot decide between running away and hiding from the noise vs satisfying her curiosity and watching what they are doing.

I think it's pure #classism when a majority of longtime #Fediverse users from #academia blame #artist|s and #sexworker|s for trying to generate #income by doing #promotion in the Fediverse.
What else are #academic|s doing than to promote themselves when they expose their #skills & #knowledge in the Fediverse?
I consider it #bigotry on #speed to blame #tradies, #artists & #sexworkers for trying to generate #income here.

That was unexpected. Had a leaking pipe, and the earliest I could get a plumber was 4 Jan. They rang this afternoon, and now plumber is fixing pipe. Awesome. The pipe burst under my lounge, so we had to lift the carpet, and cut out the floorboard.

The Queensland government is being blamed for slowing down the recovery of struggling flood-affected communities because it has refused to sign on to a national scheme for #tradies, arguing other states have "substandard licensing regimes". (That’ll be NSW, we have some dodgy tradies here)
