Lived in Oregon off and on for 20+ years, and have experienced many kinds of rainfall: gentle. sullen. pattery. steady. playful. lazy. Barely discernible pinprick microdroplets to name a few ... but nothing compared to how the sky opened up and punctuated the evening last night.
In an inundation of purification, the rain opened up as if from a faucet, and washed volumes of joy over the shimmery streets and sidewalks shortly after the colonists' idols were #toppled from their statue posts near Park Blocks in downtown #PDX.
Happened to walk by the area shortly after they came down.
Vandalism it is not. The indigenous human bodies who have endured 500+ years of vandalism against their tribes, nations, and communities simply want the average American to wake up to what vandalism really is!
Carving up sacred mountains with the faces of hideous white dudes. Burning down villages. Kidnapping women and performing invasive surgeries on them. Bulldozing sacred burial sites for oil and gas pipelines? THOSE are a more proper definition of vandalism.
The statues were put there to make you forget the centuries genocide, because the average American is so brainwashed by romanticized Euro-centric angle of "American" history.
Happy Indigenous Peoples Day. It's time you take a closer look at how the sinister demon of colonialism has infected your local lands, and time to do something about it. It's not surprising that this has finally happened.
Justice for Native peoples isn't going to be pretty or fit in the Realtors' and Landlords' plan to upsell a neighborhood with hipster rents. But is 100 percent necessary to even begin to get close to the truth of the continent on which flag-waving Americans want to live.

"For about 20 years, thousands of locals and tourists have passed by this statue every day. It has been photographed countless times. Though it is on private land owned by the Garibaldi Maritime Museum, it's seen by all who traverse the Oregon Coast’s main artery.
Gray is widely hailed as the “discoverer” of the Columbia River, though for 12,000 years previous to his arrival, it was one of the most populated regions in North America, home to tens of thousands of members of the Chinook, Clatsop, Multnomah, Clackamas and Cascade nations. Gray is also credited with being the first to circumnavigate the globe in 1790. Many Pacific Northwest geographical features, high schools, scholarships, harbors and roads are named after him.
But, as with many American monuments, there is an untold story.
Gray has been linked to the infamous South Carolina triangle slave trade, having worked for slave traders Crowell Hatch and Samuel Brown. Following the abolition of that horrific trade, Gray outfitted a sailing ship bound for the Pacific Northwest, seeking sea otter furs. By many eyewitness accounts, his dealings with many Pacific Northwest tribes from Vancouver Island to Tillamook Bay was brutal and rife with murder, theft and the torching of villages.
In one well-documented instance, Gray kidnapped the son of the chief of the village of Opitsaht in British Columbia and ordered the entire village of 200 ornately carved ancestral homes burnt to the ground. "

Edward Cornwallis' statue was torn down in 2018. Cornwallis, if you don't know (or only get your history from Wikipedia) was sadistic European who sought to trade colonist cash ($colonistcash) for proof of murder of people of the Mi'qmak[1]. His descendants were so ashamed, they tried to remake him as a hero. Lotta good people were never told the ugly truth about guys like him. His lease expired long time ago...
Edward Cornwallis and Edward Colston (the slave trader whose hideousness was toppled in Bristol) are the same kind of bad guy.
White folk need to wake up to the "false narrative of written American history" being brainwashed into schoolkids. Y The confederate flag does not belong anywhere on native soil. Governments "of the people, by the people, and for the people" don't have to put up with anything they don't want in their community!
Twenty seven US cities[2] and Prague and Belgium[3] have the living people taking charge.
