folks, please don’t over-pack stuff – this pile from an ebay purchase consists of

– a sealed plastic slip
– four sheets of bubble wrap
– a cardboard wrap
– an outer paper satchel just covered in tape

…all for a single DVD that’s already inside a plastic case with a cardboard slip cover 🤦‍♀️

I know that there's concept in economics called #Shrinkflation where companies reduce the sizes offered but keep the price the same. Alan Kohler on ABC news assures me that the RBA boffins take this into account when measuring inflation. But what about multi-package-flation? Is there such a concept? That's where products are packaged such that you must buy 2 or 3 instead of just the one that you need. Yesterday I went to Bunnings to buy a fluoro tube and a fluoro starter. But I couldn't just buy one. The size that I needed was only sold in packs of 2 for both items. So I've paid twice as much as I needed to pay. By the time I need the 2nd one the chances are that it will be lost or broken or I'll forget that I have it and buy a new one instead.
I'm sure that this is a deliberate strategy by producers of all these domestic goods.
Actually there was a single pack fluoro tube in my size. But that was NEC branded quad-phospor and priced at $22. The ones I bought were Philips brand priced at $11 for two.
