  1. New #review today: "#AndyToomey has apparently been around a while, but the arrival of Perseus Calling in my inbox was the first I’d heard of him. He’s a musician based in Florida with several previous releases, but Perseus Calling features some well-known guests, raising Toomey’s profile. The band for the release is #StickMen, with Toomey adding vocals and rhythm guitar on six songs he wrote." #ExposeOnline #TonyLevin #MarkusReuter #PatMastelotto expose.org/index.php/articles/

  2. Okay music fans. If you're in Northern California/PNW, Reeves (MF) Gabrels is stepping up to join Stick Men on several while Tony Levin (all best wishes!) is recovering from undisclosed illness.

    July 17 - Stockton,
    July 18 - Fresno,
    July 19 - Santa Cruz
    July 20 - Petaluma
    July 23 - Arcata,
    July 25 - Eugene
    July 26 - Corvallis
    July 27 - Portland

  3. Joan Armatrading - Walk Under Ladders

In the early 80s, Armatrading pivoted to a more pop sound. On Me Myself I (produced by Richard Gottehrer of Blondie fame) she was backed by most of Springsteen's band.

On this 1981 release Steve Lillywhite takes over the boards, and she's backed by folks like Tony Levin, Andy Partridge, Sly & Robbie, Jerry Marotta,, and Thomas Dolby.

    A&M clearly wanted a hit.

    Lots of fun.

  4. O’Donel Levy – Simba (1974, US)

Our next spotlight is on number 303 on The List, submitted by weirdofhermiston. And, hot damn, this is one funky album! This is the fourth "solo" album from Baltimore jazz guitarist Levy, with a brass-heavy backing band that is sure to have some names many of you are familiar with, such as a certain Tony Levin on bass and Steve Gadd on drums. Hit. Play. Now.

  8. O’Donel Levy – Simba (1974, US)

Our next spotlight is on number 303 on The List, submitted by weirdofhermiston.

Well hot damn, this is one funky album!

This is the fourth solo album from Baltimore jazz guitarist Levy, his fourth on Sonny Lester’s Groove Merchant album, third to be arranged by Manny Albam, and first to contain solely Levy’s own (or co-written) compositions.

What the stoic album cover doesn’t tell you is that contained within is a Levy-led brass-heavy band with members some of you may be familiar with, particularly in the rhythm section: Eddie Daniels on flute, piccolo, and baritone saxophone; Jon Faddis and Ernie Royal on trumpet; Burt Collins and Lew Soloff on both flugelhorn and trumpet; Cecil Bridgewater and Alan Rubin on flugelhorn; Bill Watrous on trombone; Warren Bernhardt on electric piano; Tony Levin – yes, the Tony Levin – on bass; and, *drum roll please* Steve Gadd on drums.

    Have you hit play yet?!

    Happy listening, all!

You can find their earlier albums on Bandcamp, however. The band was formed in 2013 by guitarist Ehsan Sadigh, bridging modern chamber music with rock." #ExposeOnline #ChamberRock #ProgressiveRock #RIO #TonyLevin #MarkusReuter expose.org/index.php/articles/

  18. Según la radio Futuro, el proyecto Beat en el que Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, Steve Vai y Danny Carey tocan temas de King Crimson estaría en negociaciones para venir a Chile y Sudamérica durante el próximo año 😱

  19. This was very ok. On my last #zeruchontour outing, I went to San Diego, specifically shelter Island, to see see the super group Beat, perform music mostly from the '80s era of #KingCrimson. It features two members of that era, #AdrianBelew and #TonyLevin, along with #SteveVai and #DannyCarey. I'm there in the middle sandwich between them all in front of the venue stage at Humphreys.

  20. Tonight we are attending the very first gig of the #BeatTour in San Jose. Looking forward to seeing 80’s King Crimson played by #AdrianBelew #TonyLevin with #SteveVai playing Fripp and #DannyCarey of #Tool playing Bruford parts. beat-tour.com/

“I just thought, ‘I’m done’”: Steve Vai reflects on how “brutal” experience with Frank Zappa nearly made him give up on touring
With a manic touring schedule, a new setlist every night and sometimes two shows in one day, Frank Zappa pushed Steve Vai to his limits.

  22. New #review today: "One of the things #MoonjuneRecords is known for is putting together superb groups of musicians who do not represent a standing group — sometimes for improvisations and sometimes to perform the compositions of one or another of the participants. The Gathering is one of the latter, guitarist #MarkWingfield with #AsafSirkis on drums and #GaryHusband on keyboards; the bass chair is filled by #TonyLevin on six tracks and #PercyJones on four." #ExposeOnline expose.org/index.php/articles/
