A really engaging story within a really engaging story. Full of characters that are wonderfully constructed.

@arratoon @bookstodon I mean, yes, Joe is not super fleshed out but I think that’s kind of the point of him. He’s just a good solid man, like Hardy’s Gabriel Oak. He’s a contrast to the flashy superstar dude, and all the reasons why the MC’s marriage is a great one are kinda private and inscrutable to outsiders and even her daughters, if that makes sense? Patchett draws the veil of secrecy and sanctity around those two. For me it works. #TomLake
