I remember when I had to do such configs, it was hard and there was no proper solution available. Back then I ended up using .local, which just causes long extra delays and timeouts and it is wrong.

Oh, goody. #ICANN has announced it's opening up applications for new generic top-level domains.

All the ones added since they first started doing this - i.e. when the only generic TLDs were .com, .net, and .org - are, as far as I can see, garbage and useless.

Every single email I have ever received from a domain under .biz, .online, .shop, and all the other "new" GTLDs has been either spam, scam, or phishing.

I should just block all these TLDs completely, and any other new ones this results in.

🫎 On the way out I spotted the moose. Only carrying my bow and two arrows, killing it seemed an impossible task.
My plan was: "annoy the moose and run back to the office like a chicken when it charges".
👐 The first shot hit its neck, I ran back to the office door as planned. The moose followed me up to few metres away from the building. I shot my last arrow to its head and eventually took it down.
❓ Now the questions is: cloak or satchel???

🧗 I decided to return to Mountain Town to collect more items and consume the food before it's completely ruined.
🥶 I reached the picnic area, tired and about to freeze. Looking around I saw moose marks on the trees. But I prioritized recharging my batteries, so I took shelter in the Park Office and slept for a couple of hours.

Just scraping the #IANA assigned TLDs and the corresponding documented #nameservers. What I don't get is, why so many companies apply for a #TLD. It's not particularly cheap to apply for one of those ngTLDs, yet compared to the company sizes, it's probably pennies. Is it a prestige investment? Is it a digital resource to grab, before someone else does it?

Other than #Microsoft, #Google, and #AWS, I've rarely seen any ngTLD representing a corporation's name to actually be used in practice.

Does anyone in the #infosec community share their view?

And in theory even a change of registrant, or maybe even DNS provider (or MX records) should trigger a "emails on this domain are not verified anymore" situation. As it should trigger certificates revocation too, which won't happen (hence shorter lifetimes as a solution).

20$ and a few days of enthusiasm and work granted a researcher access to way too many moving parts of the mobi. #TLD, because the #whois server domain changed. If I understand it correctly did the researcher simply register the old #domain.

arstechnica.com reports that the user was even able to "rightfully" claim ownership of certificates. The example mentioned is, that he could have claimed authority over "microsoft[.]mobi" of which #GlobalSign is the #certificate #authority.

Recommend to give this article at least a brief read.

Apparently, there is a #DNSSEC related issue on the #Liberia #ccTLD lr.. To quote: "All of the systems [...] have been shut down". Quite a hefty statement on the #DNSOARC mailing list. Haven't digged into it, but couldn't operators temporarily disable the DNSSEC validation?

Curious if there will be any updates or a post-mortem.
