There was a made for tv movie in the 90s, Sci-Fi Original, I think, where the basic plot was that an archaeology professor found an artifact that changed him, and he gathered up a group of ‘perfect specimens’ to go meet the ancient aliens. #TimeWalker reminded me a bit of that. #Monsterdon

but yes I also thought he transported somewhere (probably to a ship) with the professor and the crystal got left behind as a side effect
