Things I saw and heard:
A brown paper bag full of *something* placed on the exact middle of a car's bonnet.
A mosquito cleaning her back legs by rubbing them on the edges of her wings.
A mosquito getting caught in a spider's web while I'm supposed to be meditating.
Some Egyptian geese having a knock-down-drag-out fight while I'm supposed to be meditating. Seriously, I thought someone was going to commit gooseicide.
Two people riding a bicycle, one of them seated on the handlebars, faced backwards.
A finch unzipping a thin strip from a bamboo leaf, then taking it to the nest he's weaving, saying "chuck chuck chuck" to himself as he tucks it into place.
A dog telling his person that he's going in the wrong direction, the dog park is *that way*.
A finch stepping off the railing of a bridge, wings closed, and just straight up falling several meters before starting to fly.

Things I saw and heard:
Two raggedly dressed children, sitting next to the road with a big piece of pizza, using their hands to show one another how it should be divided.
A lizard so sun-dazed that it wasn't scared of me.
An old man earnestly telling me about a new kind of biological aquarium filtration.
A pile of twigs that, on second glance, turns out to be somebody's home. I'm not sure what kind of creature, but small.
The sun shining red through a little boy's ears as he tries to guess my age. "Thirty. Older? Forty. Fifty?"
The crunch of my bike's tires after I cycled over a patch of damp sand.
An extremely small spider, waiting on a web stretched between the bars of a security gate.
A heron perching where I usually meditate. So I couldn't meditate there!

Things I saw and heard:
A weaver bird's nest so new that the grass is still green.
Wet footprints where a surfer walked into a bar.
A cat deciding whether or not to notice me.
The skull of an antelope on the wall of a fish-and-chip shop.
A small girl walking with her hands behind her back, exactly like her mother.
The hoofprints of a running antelope, (deep, sand kicked up) overlaid by a dog's footprints.
Two mismatched child-sized shoes washed up on the shore of the vlei.
A crow carrying a long twig, possibly to build a nest?
The slosh of water under the bird hide's floor on a windy day.

Things I saw and heard:
A small girl in a black dress, her hair in plaits, marching up behind a woman and slapping at her, angrily, and very careful not to make contact.
A scattering of fish scales on the wooden rail where the pied kingfishers like to wipe their beaks.
An old man at the supermarket, considering all the fish and meat spreads on display. Selecting one, and, carefully, transferring the tiny container into his basket, holding it with both hands as if it's highly volatile.
An African Darter flying so low over the water that its wing tips leave little tracks in the surface.
The silky rustle of a flock of flamingos flying just overhead. Honestly, sounds exactly like raw silk. Reminds me of my wedding dress.
A boy very seriously testing the pressure of his soccer ball, then telling me to pump it up "three more strokes".

Forgot to post my morning cycle photos. It's getting light so late now, I'm cycling at sunrise.
The sounds that went with the photos were the sea, a passing train, and the sirens of the prison transport vans shuttling prisoners to Pollsmoor.

#today on my morning bicycle ride, a big man in a wetsuit shouted "lady with cap!" at me as I went by.
I'm not sure why.
This was on the beachfront so the wetsuit was not surprising.
I do wear a peaked cap under my helmet. So. Well.
I also saw a scooter disguised as a rhino. Honestly, I did. It had a enormous rhino head mounted on the handlebars, and a rhino butt fixed to its back end.
I guess this, too, will remain a mystery.

Things I saw and heard #today
A dog walking behind its person so it could stay in her shadow.
Loose brick cobbles softly knocking together as my bike's wheels rolled over them.
-
Things I saw and heard yesterday:
A man I nearly bumped into saying "That's OK, not serious, mon" in a deep voice.
A man who's crouched down to repair brick paving. He's trying not to laugh because I just walked into a pole.
(why yes, despite my idea of myself as a serious and dignified person I have a personal soundtrack, and it is yackity sacks)

CW: CW: mention of animal death and violence Things I've seen. Things I've heard.
A sign directing trucks, battered and torn along one edge by the trucks that have scraped past it.
A moth fluttering across four lanes of moving traffic. It crossed at the pedestrian crossing, but against the lights.
A tree with huge a right angled gap in its branches and foliage, from years of trucks driving under it.
The clean skeleton of a kitten, hidden amongst the weeds of a traffic island.
A scattering of too many porcupine quills on the verge of a busy road.
The mark on my neighbours car where a thrown brick struck it.
A chameleon, thin as a dried leaf on tar, flattened by a car's wheel.
The hollow boom of a truck ramming under a bridge that's too low for it.
The bangs as the wheels of a petrol bombed bus exploded.
Potholes in a road where dune moles undermined it.
