The treatment of the Synths at #UtopiaPlanitia irks me.
Didn't #Picard warn against this exact use of #SyntheticLifeforms during the trial regarding #Data's sentience in the #StarTrek #TheNextGeneration episode #TheMeasureOfAMan? ¹
They're created in the image of humans, dressed like them, and put to work like/instead of them, but not treated as such, even though sentience was considered too hard to prove/disprove.1/

I'd like to add a related side question though: if a sentient artificial being is *discovered*, without knowledge of who created it, should it be forced to give up its own source code or even be allowed to be disassembled in hopes or recreating it?(Which is similar I guess to the premise of #StarTrek #TheNextGeneration's episode #TheMeasureOfAMan, where Data's rights to self-preservation and sentience are questioned)
