Personally, I'm quite happy with the range of my favourite settings in general. From Mass Effect to Last Airbender, I got really lucky.
Perhaps #InfinityTheGame deserves a wider audience. Having a positive portrayal of the future is quite nice for once? But there are books and there might be a streaming series.

Kinda? There's a half sunken city (more German than Italian) with water fey (Necker) and a court of the river king. 😁
But my point isn't that #TheDarkEye has done all of the fairytales and folklore. They haven't. They have some of it. Like a powerful witch with a house on chicken legs.
So adding more is easy. TheDarkEye offers an incredible range in moods, from grim and epic to flimsy and fairylike. And "fairytale like" is something the playerbase enjoys.

I must admit, I am among the minority of German #pnpde players who are not very familiar with #TheDarkEye .
But I am pretty sure that there are plenty of elements from German folklore that they missed. I mean, does the setting even have Ultraterrestrial Venetians? 😉

Personally, I would go with adventure modules for #TheDarkEye.
The setting is based quite a bit on European #folklore and #fairytales in the first place, from a very German perspective. (Similar to #TheWitcher)
I'm not sure that writing an entire fantasy setting is worth the extra effort.

Looking at early #TheDarkEye rules from the mid-80s, there's interesting bits on how you can progress.
TDE 1E basically had a Tunnels & Trolls set up, where you increased one core ability per level.
If you didn't get lucky enough to become a dwarf, elf or mage at the start, you still could enter some "classes" at a higher level if you achieved its minimum reqs later.
The "fighter" class was open to you. Only benefit was access to all weapons and armor.
You couldn't become a mage, but you could become a druid. Not a nature priest or celtic sage, but a very ominous practitioner of sympathetic magic, evil eye etc.. (It actually capped your charisma at 10)
So "knightly" weapons weren't limited by birth, but "proper" wizardry was.
Of course later editions ignored all that, but it would make some interesting setting building for retro-gaming or as inspiration for homebrew games.

The German Dark Eye RPG had a rather interesting "Expert" box in its 1st edition. Introducing a lot of stuff that's been ignored or superseded by the 2nd edition a few years later, like a combat system with attacks of opportunity and a 1d20 skill system.
But one of my favorite parts is the OG Druid class. It was the only arcane magic class you could enter after play started, as opposed to mages, witches, and, of course, elves. Then you learned 7 spells, all of which are either about mind control or curses. Your Charisma stat (starts from 8-13, can go to 20) was capped at 10, as were the newly introduced social skills. Nobody likes you.
The "no metal weapons" was in there, but besides one spell that lets you dominate animals, nothing nature-friendly. Later editions went all out with the one-with-nature and elemental cliches.
Apparently druids liked to use the boomerang. (Another thing that only appeared in this very book)

#RPGaDAY2024 Day 3 - Most often played RPG
Going by rules, single edition: #dnd 3.5E. We played very regularly back then and had long sessions, so we put in a lot of hours there.
Going by setting (or playtime within the last year): #TheDarkEye, using five official editions, one un-official one (Ilaris) and some homebrewed conversions (HERO, GURPS). Got a big boost after having to find new groups after moving and it still being the biggest player in my age bracket ;)

#RPGaDAY2024 Day 2 - Most Recently Played
That would be a #TheDarkEye / #DasSchwarzeAuge adventure using the alternative #Ilaris ruleset (which is really, really good).
The campaign is set amongst the earliest adventures from the mid-80s, but the PCs started out as the "evil cultists" from one of those, now on the run and trying to find their own path, determine how much of their souls are missing, whether the morals of their "evil sect" are all bad etc… I run this rather sandboxy, and they're just getting to a point where their trust in their former leader is evaporating and they're truly on their own.

- #Pathfinder1e "Curse of the Crimson Throne" remotely for my former players. Not the biggest fan of the system or Paizo's adventure construction, but the setting is fun.
- #TheDarkEye 5E campaign where the PCs currently are on a mission to save a Viking princess from a curse, but get distracted constantly.
- #TheDarkEye (using the #ilaris ruleset) retro campaign where we started out playing the baddies (they're just politically persecuted and misunderstood) from an ancient bad adventure and generally wreck the world by assuming every adventure the PCs aren't participating in fails for the "good guy".
Currently playing
- Some Inception-like sleeper agent game. Cool story, just hope it doesn't get more railroady. GM wants a story game experience but rules-wise is a bit stuck in the 90s (homebrew WoD/Feng Shui mashup)

- #GURPS in general, preferably either a Voodoo/Cabal contemporary campaign or hardcore cassette futuristic #Traveller / New Era.
- A video-gamey #OSR campaign I've been dreaming of, a mixture of Might & Magic, Wizardry and Ultima Underworld.
- Dreamy but "realistic" portal fantasy stealing from 80s German novels. Using #BRP / #Mythras
- My own #palladiumRPG mashup: Ninjas & Superspies group is summoned into the Palladium Fantasy setting.
- #Shadowrun the setting, preferable some other rules, but all with a very Wu Xia mindset.
- Everquest D20 in the Forgotten Realms.

Oh boy, in a #thedarkeye chat, the old "I'm a cleric of the war goddess, why does nobody RESPECT MAH AUTHORITEH" argument resurfaces.
How do you handle that in your #ttrpg games? Clerics and the like often are members of organized churches with plenty of worldly might, plus plenty of literal divine powah. A desire to be treated differently is justifiably, from an in-game, simulationist point of view.
Alas, this immediately triggers my "nerd power fantasy" GM-sense.

[21] I bought the three academy books for #TheDarkEye 4.1 secondhand when they were no longer available and did not regret it.
I think it’s admirable that the authors managed to flesh out 43 (!) unique and interesting mage academies.
They make wonderful character backgrounds. You get a feeling who someone IS who lived and studied there for many years. -

Most memorable character demise
Hmm. Difficult. I'm not sure one of my characters ever died.
The most memorable party kill I ever did was chasing my troupe in #dasschwarzeauge #dsa #thedarkeye with a Shruuf demon.
It has several attacks and was way overpowered and killed them in very few attacks.
Afterwards, we decided it was a trial fight because I had entirely misjudged the strength of the demon.

I disliked the few older #TheDarkEye novels I read for research purposes. But I hear the more recent ones are way better.
