As I was riding today with my 37 year-old daughter and her two daughters (ages 5 and 2 1/2) in their van today my daughter programmed a song from her youth that I would play and she, as a toddler, would dance around the living room to. That she has this 36 year-old tune on her playlist and she sings it (not missing a word) and plays it now for her kids kinda brought a tear or two to the old man’s eyes.

#BlackRebelMotorcycleClub, “Red Eyes and Tears” from B.R.M.C., 2001

When I first heard these guys I thought they might be British - I heard some #britpop in there, maybe even a hint of #shoegaze. Then I picked up some #psychedelic vibes and realized - duh! - that’s where the former two genres have their roots.

They’re actually from #California, and lead vocalist/bassist Robert Turner, aka Robert Been is the son of the late Michael Been of the (refreshingly non-didactic) Christian faith-based band #TheCall, but this is not hippy-dippy music; this is psychedelia with a hard edge. “Red Eyes and Tears” from their on-label debut (after their self-released CD, “Demo”) is slinky and sly, full of menace, and it is delicious.
