  1. Finally got to read 'Thunder City' by @PhilipReeve and I think it might just be my favourite Mortal Engines novel since the very first.

A genuinely thrilling adventure story that also hit me right in the feels at one particular point. So good.

Can't wait for sequel 'Bridge of Storms', which I have on preorder. 😎

  3. Scott's review of Predator's Gold - BookWyrm

I liked the movie, so I read the book (1) version, and was glad there was more of this interesting world. And this book continues it. Tho maybe a bit unevenly.

This takes place 2 years after the the first book. And for a good while, it seems uninterested in picking up book 1 threads except for Hester and Tom. Who I was glad to see are keeping on with...

  4. Just started watching #MortalEngines on Netflix. Pretty early in the movie, but it already had an amazing joke about current pop culture, and incredible VFX (a chase on foot across a small city that gets cut apart by the giant machinery of a larger city).

But all the outdoor scenes have this super weird studio lighting on the actors. Maybe the backgrounds were not ready yet or were revised a lot? (those huge full-CG vistas were probably no easy feat).

  7. Trying to watch #MortalEngines for the first time and... Holy shit is this movie rushed 😑 even overlooking the plot holes and ridiculous defiance of physics, there's no time to get to know any of the characters... Which I guess doesn't matter as much since they all fit their cliche archetype to a T 😒 at least it's pretty, but that's about literally all it has going for it.

  8. I finally got around to watching MORTAL ENGINES, which you would have expected that I would have seen long before now. #TTRPG #movies #MortalEngines

A movie with the central idea being that a thousand years after the apocalypse, cities are literally driving around Europe, attacking and eating each other.

It sounds as though I should absolutely, without question, be all over that.

    And yet...

    I am deeply disappointed.

Not because of the setting. I love the setting. Such a great idea for a post-apocalypse that doesn't have to make sense in a truly mechanical way. There's no way that you could get the city of London to drive around on giant tank treads without sinking all the way to bedrock. It's physically impossible. It works in exactly the same way that all mecha work, purely running on the Rule of Cool. That's the way it should work.

No, the problem I have with the movie is that I hate every single one of the protagonists, and I'm completely down with the decision-making of all of the antagonists.

  9. Someone else getting #MortalEngines (books, movie) vibes from #Sand (upcoming tba video game)?

  10. A front view of a traction town. The tank van on the side is more of a size reference than a feature.
