Just signed up for another Studio ACT course: Intimacy Choreography and Stage Fighting. Despite what the title might seem to imply, it's about theatrical use of consent, and planning for how to stage vulnerable moments. Intimacy coordination is still a relatively new discipline in theatre, and it matters immensely. Reading works in #TheatreStudies is so weird! Coming from #GameStudies, I read "play" as a verb that refers to an activity instead of a noun about a piece of writing.

The passage below makes two kinds of sense to me, and I keep forgetting mid-sentence which of them I was going for.

"When we investigate a play, the first (and obvious) thing to do is to define what is in the play, then we can add elements as a reader from own preconception and interpretation through the lens of subjectivity."

Some good news: “Edward Albee and the Emergence of Difference and Diversity in US and World Theatre, 1950s-1970s”, an edited volume to which I contributed a chapter on James Baldwin’s “Blues for Mister Charlie”, will be published by Routledge next year.
