I did try #SimpleSMS, and it works well. However, I found it too basic.

Instead I landed on #TextraSMS, that suits me well. I paid for the “pro” version and I don't see any ads at all. It was a one-time expense, and not a subscription.

The only weird thing I have experienced is that even though I have set Textra as my default SMS app, the stock SMS app will announce all SMSes that have arrived since last reboot as “new messages” whenever I restart my phone. Must be a bug somewhere…

Just for the record: I landed on #TextraSMS (and it turned out I had already paid for “pro” some 7 years ago).

Now that #Signal will soon remove support for #sms on #Android, which sms app should I choose?

I'm having eyes on #TextraSMS, #ChompSMS, and #SimpleSMS. Are there other apps I should consider?

#GoogleMessages is out of question.

#QKSMS and #Silence both seem to be abandonware.

#PulseSMS seems to be acquired by a less reputable company.
