Waiting around for absentee property managers to suddenly care about the living conditions in places like the Masten District just drains your energy. So we decided to stop waiting. Building a genuine solidarity economy means organizing neighbors to pool their resources and protect each other instead.
Look the reality is that real counter-institutions require actual education. You can't just tell folks to fight corporate landlords without giving them the tools to do it safely. Through The Rising Tide Fellowship we run community strategy sessions where we break down exactly how to force structural repairs without getting caught in an eviction trap. We study things like the tenant organizing blueprints coming out of Rochester to figure out how to replicate those wins locally. No gurus and no lectures. Just neighbors sharing knowledge.
And practicing Intersectional Pacifist Social Anarchism (IPSA) means we have to build the equitable society we want to see right now in the dirt. Shifting the power dynamic directly back into the hands of the community takes relentless consistency. A total daily grind.
