The rainfall totals happening in FNQ in the last week are mind-boggling.
Myola got > 2000 mm in 5 days! That's close to what Cairns gets in a year, 800 mm more than Brisbane's and Sydney's annual average, and nearly 4 times London's annual average. It's a lot of water!
Thinking of everyone up north, what a battering to get so early in the wet season.

Far North Queensland appears to be through the worst of ex-#TCJasper. The problems now are flooding and loss of electricity. State owned Ergon Energy is working to restore power but it's limited in what it can do while roads are flooded or damaged. Stay safe everyone. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-15/qld-cyclone-jasper-aftermath-friday/103230624

Ex-#TCJasper. Don't enter floodwaters. Could be anything in there from bacteria to a croc. This includes you journalists. ABC MediaWatch from 2011.

Ex-#TCJasper swirling over the top of Queensland tracking toward the Gulf of Carpentaria. It crossed the Qld coast as a Cat 2 but lost power over the Queens land. It can intensify again when over water in the gulf. Treat it as a severe weather event. Stay safe everyone.

#TCJasper downgraded to ex-tropical status after it lost power over land. Still a serious weather event with high rainfall, wind, debris and rescues. Heading for the Gulf of Carpentaria where it can increase its power over water. Stay safe.

Look at this. From the radar, you'd think the very earth was being ground by Jasper's monstrous heel. But except for the weird looking sky, you'd hardly know there was a cyclone anywhere near me. #TCJasper

Wujal Wujal is a small indigenous town consisting of a couple of hundred people. They're in for a wild night. Cape Tribulation is half the size but white people and tourists. I don't doubt that the residents of both are having less fun with this than me. #TCJasper

Ooh, we cave category 2 again. Still only occasional gusts and showers at home. The next hour will be telling. #TCJasper

I am now well and truly inside the danger zone of the cyclone, supposedly getting buckets of rain and gale force winds.
Outside, the leaves are barely moving, and not a drop is falling. It's almost eerie. #TCJasper

It's still remarkably calm and mild, but things are about to get fun if the satellite image is accurate. #TCJasper

Livestock can get displaced during floods. Keep an eye out during #TCJasper. We had a sad incident last year where a cow ended up down the river on a beach on the Tweed. Try to keep the animal as calm as possible, alert RSPCA soon as you can. https://7news.com.au/news/nsw/nsw-police-shoot-dead-cow-that-found-itself-on-beach-after-being-swept-away-by-floodwaters-c-5896772

Be careful around flooded waterways in Queensland during #TCJasper. Crocs in the north can become displaced and end up cruising through strange places. Also bull sharks can get further up rivers when they're swollen. #TCJasper will intensify to a Cat 2 and make landfall this afternoon between Hope Vale & Cairns, Queensland. Destructive winds, heavy rainfall and flash flooding from now and over the coming days.

North Queenslanders finalising their preparations ahead of #TCJasper. Marinas & streets are quiet. People from outlying areas coming into the regional centres for shelter.

#TCJasper now declared a Cat 2. Expected to make landfall tomorrow (Wednesday) around midday just above Port Douglas in Queensland. It's also drawing in weather to the rest of the state. Watch for flooding & high winds from now on.
-
#TCJasper currently a Cat 1 off the North Qld coast. It was weakened by dry air entering the system & strong winds to the upper & mid levels. Predicted to intensify to a Cat 2 & make landfall between Cooktown and Cardwell.

Quick stop by the marina before brief work visit to unplug everyone. Have never seen it not chockers.

Can't sleep so up watching the weather roll past. 28 degrees at 4.30am. First cyclone and I hate the wind at the best of times. We are propped as can be. Will head into work briefly this morning to unplug everything. Why do they put powerpoints so close to the carpet on the ground floor in a flood zone?

Two Qld Labor Left members have nominated for the leadership. Steven Miles was dealing with #TCJasper today. Shannon Fentiman made an announcement this afternoon. Just waiting to see what Cameron Dick wants to do. Official nominations open tonight. #qldpol https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-11/who-will-replace-annastacia-palaszczuk-queensland-premier/103211286

#TCJasper was a Cat 4 last week but has lost significant power due to moderate wind shear and dry air feeding into its core. It's still a severe weather event & expected to make landfall as a Cat 2 between Cooktown and Cardwell on Wednesday. https://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/tropical-cyclone-jasper-to-make-landfall-on-wednesday/1672148

Severe weather alert for North Queensland and as far south as Mackay with #TCJasper expected to make landfall as a Cat 2 system between Cape Flattery and Cardwell on Wednesday. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-11/qld-cyclone-jasper-damaging-winds-mackay-bowen/103211436

#TCJasper is coming in, unfortunately. Currently a Cat 2 but expected to hit the Cairns region as a Cat 3. Potential rough weather all along the Queensland coast. Queenslanders urged to prep. https://twitter.com/9NewsQueensland/status/1733764398987014574?t=e3gWm18AEmH0dY4EjnzsXQ&s=19

Cat 3 #TCJasper sitting off the Queensland coast. Moving slowly but expected to intensify as it comes closer.

Just removed this cootie patootie from my face, where it landed after jumping off the garden umbrella I was trying to disassemble. I didn't even squeal. There are a few around this morning. I guess they know what's coming.

There's a battle going on out over the Coral Sea between the elements of earth, water & air. The mighty Queensland appears to be suppressing #TCJasper.

Queensland responds to #TCJasper.
You want a go at Australia? Come on then, you have to get through us first.

There's a titanic battle going on out over the land, sea and air. Queensland is staring defiantly into the face of #TCJasper and daring it to advance.

Cat4 #TCJasper sitting off the Queensland coast tonight, eye visible. We don't want it to hit us in Qld as a Cat5. Ideally we want it to break up and drop rain over the needed parts of eastern Australia. Next 24-48 hrs critical. http://satview.bom.gov.au/
