  1. CW: Tawny Frogmouth (closeups - final post in thread)

The (possibly male) Tawny Frogmouth on the nest. According to my bird books, the male incubates during the day, and the female at night.

I noticed it about 2ish weeks ago, and they have a 4 week incubation so there could be chicks in the next 1-2 weeks.

  2. Spot the Tawny Frogmouth.

I'll post progressively closer shots in this thread (CW'd).

  3. Nesting Tawny Frogmouth update:

She's still nesting. No sign of chicks yet (unsurprisingly, it hasn't been that long).

  4. On my lunchtime walk, I found a Pale-headed Rosella, and two Tawny Frogmouths (one seems to be nesting).

  5. Going through the phone camera roll. Also spotted a snoozy Tawny Frogmouth just hanging out in a neighbour’s front yard. Please enjoy another zoomed in camera-phone shot of a cool bird.

  6. Avert your eyes, a human is approaching!

As light rain began to fall on a spring morning, a juvenile tawny frogmouth stirred to life. It stretched its wings wide, momentarily cloaking its siblings. With its mouth open in what felt like a joyful expression, the scene revealed a tender, unexpected moment of warmth, resilience, and quiet connection in the wild.

  7. A Tawny Frogmouth landed on my balcony handrail a couple of evenings ago. I tried to get a photo, but, while it was happy for me to look, it saw the camera as a threat and flew off. So here's an older photo!

  8. You’re being watched! Those eyes follow you everywhere! Tawny Frogmouths usually sleep during the day, so if you wake one you’ll get the stare.
