This dual-spring tamper is fantastic. Even if you press at an angle, the second spring balances the tamp, taking your force evenly regardless of angle.
If you’re going to buy something like this, definitely get a dual-spring one.

I repaired this “single-spring” tamper (the one on the right) and was using it like “meh, it works,” but then it hit me: The spring doesn’t actually do anything 🤣. If you press at an angle, according to basic physics you’re still applying force directly to the metal, so it still tamps unevenly. Totally pointless.
Then I found a dual-spring tamper.

Now putting aside the #WDT tool that @Kuraiko printed for me, all there was left was to give the #portafilter a few gentle taps to settle the grounds, then tamp them down firmly with my Normcore spring loaded #tamper for an even, level tamp.
Pulled a great shot and now I can enjoy a tasty, thick and sirupy #espresso .
