#symfonium — Public Fediverse posts

Live and recent posts from across the Fediverse tagged #symfonium, aggregated by home.social.

  1. After a few years running #Jellyfin as a one size fits all for audio and video, I spent a few hours moving all my music to #Navidrome.
Seems light and fast, and works very well with #Symfonium on android.

    #selfhosting

  2. Anyone that self hosts, is probably using #Symfonium as their #Android client and I'm no exception. It has certain things that other clients just don't have overall, it's a good music client.

That said, shit kinda hit the fan when all users that were signed up to the beta found themselves completely locked out of the app. A hard-coded expiration date triggered before the new update cleared the Play Store review.

I'm not ignorant, I totally get that an indie developer doesn't want to deal with people reporting outdated beta issues and while I don't agree with it, I can understand why he's undertaken this methodology.

That said… knowing you've programmed this and pushing an update just four days before a kill switch activates is incredibly inept management, especially knowing #Google's review delays.

Shit happens and all that and you'd think the developer would just say, "holy shit, I fucked up, my bad" but nope, his arrogance decides to take the front seat. When users, actual customers, because this is paid software, complained and rightfully so, he got defensive. Someone, may have been me, gave the developer an open goal to just step back with dignity, apologise for the oversight, and explain the store delay. Because God-forbid you wouldn't sticky an explanation about this on your forums you force everyone to join. But alas, instead, he doubled down, got defensive, and literally called everyone that expressed dissatisfaction, a "Karen".

Asking for basic communication isn't a huge ask by any metric. Name-calling the people who fund your work is beyond unprofessional. I've personally never had a good experience with the guy. Initially I thought it was a language barrier issue, but I quickly realised he's just rude and arrogant. What should've been a simple thing got escalated because this guy can't put his ego aside. Two days later and people are still locked out. Actual insanity.

    #navidrome #Symfonium

  4. Tinkering with #mTLS today.

I was able to use it to secure #wavelog and it seems to work as expected, but trying to do the same with #homeassistant , on the other hand, broke access entirely.

What's frustrating is that there seems to be very little feedback when it doesn't work. Server logs didn't show any unauthorized access attempts, the browser just kept timing out.

I was initially hoping that I could use mTLS to securely access some of my private services without my VPN, but I'm also finding that many applications (like #symfonium) don't support mTLS, anyway.  Is it worth continuing to try to make it work?   I haven't decided.

  5. So!

  7. - Comes the question of data migration!
    - CalDAV + CardDAV: easy
    - Photos: folders are a mess but metadata is OK, so that should work.
    - Music: awful! Jellyfin has my "likes" and a special playlist named "5stars". These 2 pieces of info are stored in Jellyfin DB, not in files. I can't find a way to migrate 5 stars, bulk assign 5 stars to them at the destination, do the same with 4 stars, and then with the rest. Recently, I've seen that using #Symfonium allows stars rating and offline play, but that then goes in the Symfonium DB. Another source of info!

  8. I'm currently listening to: Theory Of A Deadman - Black Hole In Your Heart

  9. Keeping with that, I use #navidrome for audio streaming with most everything stored as FLAC. On mobile, I use #symfonium. I wish it was open source, but it's not. It's a paid app and one I am fully on board with. The dev recently added #jellyfin support. I thought that was neat and added my server. I was hoping it would see my video library and transcode the audio out of the video container on the fly, but that doesn't appear to be so.

  10. @unity als Musicplayer: The one and only #Symfonium ...

  11. It's long been known that #random as a function sucks on #Android, which means when you play #music via an #app, you're always wondering why you're hearing the same tracks. This is particularly bad in #Symfonium. I use it every day, switching between at least three queues and, the largest has over 1300 tracks on it and yet I hear the same songs constantly. Why, because random isn't random, it has a numerical bias. So the tracks are in a similar order in two play lists. There's actually tracks on the large queue I haven't heard because they've been relegated to the bottom. In an ideal world, Google would fix it, but you'd at least hope developers compensate when the feature is fundamental to their app, such as music #apps. Unfortunately that hasn't happened with Symfonium. Here's two examples of just how bad #shuffle is on Symfonium. As a music lover, it's frustrating.

  14. Had no clue she had covered Nickelback.

I'm currently listening to: Avril Lavigne - How You Remind Me #Symfonium

  15. @violexene OMG that's awesome. I actually did decide not to go with #navidrome because I already have a self hosted #jellyfin instance so it was much simpler to just add my music library to that. I'm using the #symfonium free trial at the moment and it's pretty good. I'll probably purchase it. But this app looks amazing!

Any hope for a Linux flatpak or appimage?

On my Fedora Workstation I'm currently using #feishin

    codeberg.org/thororen/Feishin

  16. @eugenialoli I'm just about to begin setting up #navidrome. I saw that #symfonium was recommended for its glossy UI and extra features, but I'm curious what you didn't like about #navsonic?

  20. The best #music experience we ever had was a 1st gen #AppleTV with an #iPod to control it. It worked great!

Now we have another hi-fi system with an audio #chromecast. #Jellyfin & #emby were absolute dogs on this Raspberry Pi 3B+ with 1 GB RAM, swapping.

Finally, I installed today #Navidrome. Much faster than Jellyfin, and the whole OS+server uses now 200 MB of RAM only.

I only had to buy #Symfonium to cast with it, because the #foss apps were just terrible.

  21. 7.6.1 ready for the weekend.

Issues found using have been fixed giving us much better json support in .

  22. I find it wild that reloads aren't ubiquitous across music culture. A while back I asked the Symfonium to count reloads in play stats. e.g. I play 30% of a song and I'm loving it that much, I rewind it to play it again. That should be reflected in my play stats as two plays. The developer seemed baffled by that saying if I want to play songs over and have them count I should set the player to repeat one. I can't be mad at him, it's cultural. #Ragga/#Dancehall does reloads, #HipHop does reloads even #RnB does reloads. I can only assume that whatever he listens to, it's not part of the culture. But yeah, I'll reload a song three times and never hear the last verse, because that's just how I've been brought up to digest music.

It's not a criticism of #Symfonium or the developer, just an observation about #music and #culture.

  31. Set up #Navidrome and #Symfonium yesterday. Absolutely loving it so far!

I was using #Poweramp previously (also very good), but now I can stream rather than having to move all the FLAC albums I want to listen to my phone.
