It's so sweet and (spoiler) John is murdered off screen later that day and Mina never sees him again in a classic gut-punch that Survivors excelled at.
Also we see technical wizardry from the BBC here. This is 1976 and they filmed the show with outside video cameras instead of film cameras for pretty much the first time
The lovely tracking shot where Troughton walks along the canal while Paton lolls on the barge was impossible to do just 18 months earlier.

I wish Terry Nation was alive so I could ask him about Survivors, a post-apocalypse scifi he created in 1975. It's unlike his dalek stories or his show Blakes 7
Interesting wrinkles to it. I don't know if I would call it feminist but it gives equal time to womens' experiences and all the villains are men trying to recreate patriarchal structures
I also think the female actors detected this and fleshed out these threads more than the scripts showed maybe?
