Erstens werden durch diese Baumprojekte, die als Weg zur Abschwächung des Klimawandels angepriesen werden, oftmals schnell wachsende Bäume wie Eukalyptus und Akazien gepflanzt, um Geld zu verdienen. Dies kann den Ausstoß von Kohlenstoff tatsächlich erhöhen, anstatt ihn zu verringern: Die bestehende Vegetation muss gerodet werden und die neuen Plantagen sind anfälliger für Brände. Die meisten dieser Plantagen werden in wenigen Jahren abgeerntet, um daraus Papier und Holzkohle herzustellen…"
