  1. > Here’s what gives me hope:

In April, I met with students at North Carolina A&T University, our nation’s largest HBCU. The Republican-controlled state Board of Elections had recently eliminated their on-campus polling place, meaning some 15,000 students now must travel far off-campus to cast a ballot.

When they went to the state capital to protest the decision, they were told that voting was a privilege, not a right. They were told, “You have five minutes to leave.”

That did not stop them. These young leaders are organizing, speaking out, and refusing to let anyone take their power. They are fighting for young people’s participation in our democracy, and they are fighting for Black and brown Americans’ voices.

I am inspired by their work, and I will share it whenever I can — because this is the energy we need to bring to the fight for voting rights. I’ll be on the road this fall to lift up their story, as well as the voters, organizers, advocates, and candidates who are impacted by the Callais decision. I hope you will support me in this work.

  3. > A captured EAC could conceivably start to do the dirty work right away, under the direction of loyalists the White House plans to parachute into the commission. What’s more, they could rewrite state-specific instructions on the voter forms to create registration traps and onerous requirements, confusing instructions, translation issues, and on and on. ...

Trump may think he found a Trojan horse. What he actually found is a trap of his own making. Every action he tries to take to abuse the EAC will be met with resistance and tie him up in litigation as the clock ticks to November. The president’s corruption may be brazen, but it’s also sloppy and short-sighted. And we’re going to keep fighting it in the courts, in the states, and in the open, where schemes like this one go to die.
