1/🧵 I'm a chief steward in my union local and we've been working all year on making our stewards feel confident and competent handling things on their own as far as they can. That increases our capacity and means we can load up on the employer and increase the cost to them of f*cking up by making sure they have to actually deal with it. Many hands make lighter work.

My current work task - writing comments on the appalling Toondah Harbour development proposal EIS, is dominating my life right now.
The EIS is massive -5000 pages- so I've been reaching out to experts in various aspects of it (marine ecology, fisheries, restorations, offsets) and my gratitude at how great this community of #moretonbay #stewards is immense. But I'm also SO SADDENED by how many have said "thank you for doing this because I can't/wouldn't be permitted".
Scientists, businesses, whoever....we're too far down the track for this. Writing expert comment on an EIS isn't inherently "political" but you know what is? Letting the development-crazy status quo continue unchallenged
