  1. The weebly wobbly line down the middle is the start of the rows, approximately. I decided since I was cutting these stitches as a steek the pattern repeats didn't have to end perfectly.
I'll straighten the steek, and backstitch both edges before cutting ✂️

  6. Finished mismatched fingerless mitts from Shetland wool, as a way to learn colourwork. They're assembled in 2 different ways to try out steeks as a part of Fair Isle type knitting. Result: steeks are a 💩 way to create a thumb. Better solutions exist.
I've learned a lot and am now applying myself to a larger test piece, before attempting an actual sweater project. Requires a lot of v rusty arithmetic.

  11. @martinatenzer Q: does the book include advice about using steeks?
I'm looking for v trad patterns with steeks and while I can find descriptions, the illustrations are harder to find. #knitting #FairIsle #steeks
Am also eyeing up a book by 1 of the authors of your book:

  16. #knitting #steeks #blocking
Knitted fabric is like bread dough.
It can be molded and shaped when wet,
and keeps its shape when dried.
See those bumps on the neckline?
Wait till you see what blocking can do...

Do not be afraid to cut your knitting.. (especially if, like mine, it has been through the washer and hung out on a hot day... felting it a bit)
It's just steek-tastic what you can do to shape your knitting!
