Gales and lashing rain today but I’m finally making progress with my knitting project. I bought the wool and pattern for it while on holiday last summer! 😳 I have completed the first section of the repeating pattern, which comprises 56 rows. I finished my last big knitting project in June 2024 (socks are lifesavers). I left on Friday with my swatch drying. I really like the colour combination, which reminds me of the sunset over Penfret Island (Glénan Archipelago, Brittany, France).

At long last, I have two fronts, a back and two sleeves. Now all I have to do is knit the neckband and button band, sew in all the loose ends and store it somewhere moth-proof until my mum’s birthday in November! Photo taken outside to show off the colours

I've finished knitting my Shetland cardigan. I've kept all the scraps of yarn I've sewn. How much do you think it weighs? And if you put them end to end, how many metres would you get?
Hint: a ball of this yarn weighs 25 gr or 105 metres.

Despite having barely begun the blanket, I'm fairly certain this will turn out to be one of my favour squares - the gold in the brown and the progressive pattern just draw your eye - and one of my least favourite to knit. The repeat is long, about forty stitches, and the start shifts continuous so I never got off chart. Made me cross-eyed reading every. single. stitch. off the chart.

Am out of sync with ##FairIsleFriday but am not bothered.
The body of this cardie has progressed slowly. When I finish this band of dk red and yellow I'm grafting shoulders. Not decided if I'm first cutting sleeve holes Norwegian method, or knitting sleeves first. Will do one or other this holiday.
Will cut front opening and neckline Norwegian method, following an Arne&Carlos example.
Get to try picking up a lot of stitches for facings.

Finding a harmonious combination with the yarns/colours I already had turned out to be a challenge. After 5 or 6 attempts, I settled on this combination. The swatch passed the black and white test (to check contrasts) but I didn't add any poison colour.

It’s day 6 of #fiberuary colour week, so I thought I’d share a couple more #shetland wool jumpers (though they’re a bit crumpled, admittedly!). At the front is a short-sleeved jumper from Susan Crawford’s A Stitch in Time vintage knitting book, which got me knitting again after a few years off; at the back is Marie Wallinn’s Bressay pattern from her Shetland book.

Finished mismatched fingerless mitts from Shetland wool, as a way to learn colourwork. They're assembled in 2 different ways to try out steeks as a part of Fair Isle type knitting. Result: steeks are a 💩 way to create a thumb. Better solutions exist.
I've learned a lot and am now applying myself to a larger test piece, before attempting an actual sweater project. Requires a lot of v rusty arithmetic.
