I haven't seen any Trekkies mention it but there's a very important reason Jake Sisko's unpublished book about his father is called "Anselm".
Saint Anselm was the theologian who came up with the ontological argument for the existence of god. And it ties in to the episode's themes.
The ontological argument is that
1. God is perfect
2. Imagine a list of all possible attributes of god
3. The definition of perfect is that on such a list, whenever two possible attributes are in conflict, he has the better one
4. Existing is better than non-existence
5. Therefore, God exists
Obviously, Jake doesn't think of his father as perfect. But he's exploring what it means for his father to be with the prophets from the perspective of imagination. He knows that his father is going to find a way to make the better thing true.
It's also a lens the prophets themselves used in Far Beyond the Stars. Benny Russell was a way for Sisko to come to understand himself and his role in the universe. Russell is forced to imagine the attributes of an ideal Benjamin Sisko and chooses to insist on the better one at any cost. #StarTrek #StarTrekSFA #StarfleetAcademy #DeepSpace9 -

Vox In Excelsio is peak #StarTrek. It's also a story that only SFA could tell. It needed the post-burn setting. But, more than that, it needed immature characters who were in the process of learning lessons in the A plot for the B plot to parallel it.
