A7: By treating them professionally he showed them, himself, and his peers that he’s better than they are in every way, and also that his profession is valid and essential even if it isn’t about food. He wins and gets to show off and be dominant over them. It isn’t just altruism or selflessness, although that’s part of it. It’s also an opportunity for him to be the one with higher status.

Q7: Dr. Migleemo agreed to help Legong & Gonald. Was he too nice to them given the way they treated him up to that point? @petertrek1 #StarTrekHour
-
A6: Boimler gets overexcited about his new hyperfixations sometimes, especially when he starts seeing himself as a fanboy of a super cool thing.

A5: Assholes.
@StarTrekHour @petertrek1 #StarTrekHour -
Q6: Why is Boimler suddenly so eager to die in a random Klingon ritual for a stranger? @JoeSondow #StarTrekHour
-
Q5: What would be some words you’d use to describe Sir Legnog and Madame Gonald? @petertrek1 #StarTrekHour
-
A4: Freeman knows her daughter is unusually competent when it comes to navigating Klingon culture, and Boimler is like Mariner’s first officer in a situation like that, so in this particular situation I think it was a wise choice.

Q4: Critical mission or not, how wise was it to send two lower deckers to Qo’noS? (anonymous) #StarTrekHour
-
A3: Once you get in the habit of making up new rules and never getting rid of old rules, they just accumulate over centuries like clutter.

Q3: Why does Klingon culture/society have so many rituals? @petertrek1 #StarTrekHour
-
Q2: Dr. Migleemo says the Klowahkans invented warp travel in the hopes of discovering strange new meals. Besides discovering new life and new meals, what are some other reasons different species invented warp travel? @JoeSondow #StarTrekHour
-
A1: I thought it was cool. Like a variation on the show’s tone. I wouldn’t mind if it happened more often.

Q1: The introduction to this episode was not the general version but a specific one based on this episode, similar to what ENT did for their Mirror Universe story. What did you think of this change? Would you have wanted more of this? @petertrek1 #StarTrekHour

Thanks @Twerpy @petertrek1 for joining @JoeSondow for #StarTrekHour!

A7: Very likely, if they asked the right experts.

Q7: With proper personnel and equipment: Could Starfleet find a way to keep Zero’s body from decaying? (anonymous) #StarTrekHour
-
A6: Yes, it’s called a roller coaster or bungie jumping. This is very basic knowledge. Risking actual death is a preposterous way to feel fear when bodies generate just as much fear from all sorts of non-lethal experiences.
@StarTrekHour @petertrek1 #StarTrekHour -
Q6: Is there a safer, less fatal, way to experience fear besides the Running of the Nazamon? @petertrek1 #StarTrekHour
-
Just as a reminder, Zero uses they/them pronouns. #StarTrekHour
-
A5: It would have been a lot harder without Zero connecting to the threat of death and seeing their friends risk death to help them, but also Zero is an exceptionally kind, selfless, generous, loyal person so it still would have been possible.
@StarTrekHour #StarTrekHour -
Q5: If the Running of the Nazamon didn’t happen: How hard would it have been to get Zero to leave and continue the mission? (anonymous) #StarTrekHour
-
A4: The fear sensation probably wasn’t as enjoyable as they’d been led to expect. Nice to leave that behind.
@StarTrekHour @petertrek1 #StarTrekHour -
Q4: What do you think Zero missed the most from this time in their former body (if any)? @petertrek1 #StarTrekHour
-
A3: Janeway and her crew are profoundly unobservant, a necessary plot device for childish shenanigans to flourish.
@StarTrekHour #StarTrekHour -
Q3: How do you not notice the person most affected by the timeline displacement missing for 2 days? (anonymous) #StarTrekHour

Whatever we decide! I think I just had #StarTrekHour in mind which is once a week. But if we don't have a specific time window to discuss the films 'live' on Mastodon, we can do it as we like.
Do you think we should set some rules for the thing?

As a fan of 12 Monkeys, and Todd Stashwick’s character Deacon in that show, I was primed to like Shaw. I loathed Deacon at first, but appreciated his journey, & he was a far more problematic character.
#LiamShaw had good reason to be outraged, and avoid giving status and respect to officers abusing their privilege and engaging in an easily confirmed deceit. His choice to confront them in private garnered my respect.
