So here we are at the final episode for the forseeable future. I'm so not ready for this, but I suspect the internet is soiled in spoilers so I'd best watch it asap. Best not to enquire too deeply how. (Oh hello, the VLC systray icon has a festive santa hat!)

Right, last ep's cliffhanger had the Prime universe containing the treknobabble energy blast from the quantum rifts because William Boimler thought the OG Boims could handle it. Boims' reaction to the message warning him about it suggested otherwise...

Starting off with a nice summary of random season moments.

Now, Klingons. I want an albino targ pup!

Nice. Freeman and Ransom trusting Boims and Mariner.
Ohoho, I knew there was a reason Ma'ah was shown in the season recap. He's back!

The previously introduced new Lower Deckers are stepping up. Fitting for the ep title of the The New Next Generation.
Rutherford continues to be a weirdly-out-of-character pissbaby.

Starfleet command has a fish-person science expert!
It's nice to see them trusting the Cerritos, even if the dual-Boimler connection thing seems a bit overplayed.

Nice move, using the Cerritos shields to knock a Bird of Prey into another one.

And now for Schroedinger Field shennanigans? (That Delta Salamander reference tho.)

"All hands: brace for weird" should be a standard ship-wide alert message across the entire Trek Universe tbh.

Single-nacelle Freedom-class Cerritos is CURSED. Nicely animated, but CURSED.
Aw poor Shaxs. Terran-Empire Cerritos weapons disabled before he got to play with them.

Nice shot of various Starfleet vessels like a Sovereign (Picard's Ent-E?), Luna (Riker's Titan?), etc. Never got to see the Enterprise in action, but honestly I think it would have detracted from the story if we had. This isn't about Picard & Riker, it's about the Cerritos.

Ma'ah gets his command back again \o/

Redemption for Starbase 80! Under... Freeman?! As kinda like an interdimensional DS9? The Holo-Bashir and Surgeon-Garak couple really drives the comparison home. What's alt-T'Pol doing with the alt-Dax katras?

Rutherford looks weird without the implant. I get the whole character arc of him feeling it's no longer fun and cool and instead is just holding him back, but still. I figured it'd be more cool if he re-programmed it himself into something new, unique and better suited to him. Something to teach the Vulcans a thing or two.
Also he and Tendi are still totally for each other, even if they're not ready to consider it. All in their own time.

Promotion for Ransom!
Promotion to his dual first officers for Mariner and Boims!
Ofc his warp phrase is a gym reference. Engage The Core.

Well, I guess that's it (for now). The Finale ep was clearly not originally written with this being The End in mind. They've tied up most of the loose ends and opened up new possibilities, but there were definitely more plans for the future that don't look like they'll be explored any time soon.

Finally the Willian Boimler transporter clone arc! Is he eeevil and S31-y?
Oh look, one of those artificial portals. Very TMP. That Defiant-class Anaximander is looking very nicely done and all S31-coloured.
William Boims is supposed to be one of the good guys stopping the portal mess?

WAIT, T'POL? Kurzon Dax in his Klingon phase? GARAK?! He's a medic in that reality? Aww he's married to Holo-Bashir!
"Another Harry Kim" - haha there's a ship full of them!

The ranting about how cheap and sloppy multiverse stories are is pretty good. Not just poking fun at Trek but in general at how lazily the concept is usually done in sci-fi in general.

And now an alt-Mariner engineer! Nerdy and somewhat cowardly but still a potty-mouth.

The perma-Ensign Kim running gag will never get old.
The T'Pol-Dax arguments are great. So is the old married couple bickering of Holo-Bashir and Garak.

That ring ship looks old and primitive, but clearly doing something weird and advanced. Wonder if it's an alt universe temporal ops thing.

I see our Boims (Brad) is taking the heads-up well.

So, I see they got the original actors to reprise their roles in the voice acting. Very nice touch, esp for Jolene Blalock. I wonder how much grovelling and persuading McMahan had to do.
Overall it was a great fun episode that tied up the artifical portals season arc. I can see it being very divisive - the purity-obsessives are going to absolutely hate it, and I'm here for it. It's tehnically all alt-universe stuff so the super-gatekeepers can avoid apoplexy, but I bet it won't stop the tantrums.

Eyyy Rutherford's shaved (is this a take on Geordie randomly having/not having beards on TNG?) and made a depth-carved Cerritos pumpkin. Sweet! And... a V'Ger. Is this the explanation for it being in the credits?

Meanwhile, the Boims 'Tache Watch has those sideburns going full mutton chop and the evil goatee is complete.

Ceiling and Console-rocks are canon and now have a technobabble explanation.
Oh-hoho, setting up to pit the Lower vs Upper Decks, are we?

Ransom snoozetime - trying to let the Bugoons tire themselves out or something?

Uhoh Shaxs, that's quite some inner demons you've got there. This series can do dark when it wants.

Action-Billups is terrifying with his cheery percussive maintenence.

That recurring Barnes De/Re-evolved with her Souzaphone gag...

T'Ana is more hardcore than any Klingon.

Evil spiky ship alert! It's the evil spiky Klikkits!

"That was set to kill!" "SO AM I!" Oh T'Ana, never stop.
Meanwhile Shaxs kicks arse without breaking his meditation flow.

“This is how all engineers want to go. At work... in a tube.”
Oh Billups stop being so melodramatic; you're not at the end of Wrath of Khan.

Ransom doing a Ransom was actually a cunning plan. Who knew?

Awww Stevens, how thoughtful of you to arrange the Freemans' anniversary dinner!

Miglemo knows how to pitch therapy to Shaxs juuuust right.

Man our usual crew just totally missed out on all the action.
That T'Lynn burn to Mariner at the very end though. OOOOOOF.

This episode wasn't about our usual Lt Junior Graders at all. It's about the other Lower Deckers we never see and how they also bail out the Upper Decks. The successors to our usual follows are being introduced for the future.

Meanwhile Boimler still has his transporter Section 31 clone running around (I hope that resolves before the end of the season), and there wasn't anything about artificial portals in this ep either.

After the deep dive into Ma'ah, Qo'noS and Klingon bureaucracy last week, I assume from the ep title (Star Base 80) that we'll be visiting the most wretched hive of scum and villainy in Starfleet. Wonder if Mariner will get flashbacks from her breif stint there before she quit and joined up with Petra?

Chad the hot dog vendor and Dr Horseberry save the day from (yet another) mind controlling anaphasic entity! This one has a shitty boss apparently.

And a Pointless-Yet-Badass Carol Freeman moment to round off the episode. I like the fact it really explored SB80, why it has the rep it has and highlighting that even in an organisation with such lofty ideals there are entire starbases that have fallen through the cracks, not just an individual here and there. I also liked more Mariner development and Carol confronting her fears about her alt-universe self having been the station commander there until it got the better of her.
All in all a good episode, and no weird artificial portal.

I'm really loving the in-depth Klingon exploration in this episode. The visuals all look so good and the attention to detail is a delight.

EDIT: I missed the Klingon Honor Guard uniform from #StarTrekOnline the first time! It's a great looking armour outfit (I have a Klingon swanning about in iit).

We left off Episode 1 with a brewing Orion pirate war, Boimler stealing OtherBoims PADD to find out his secret to success, Rutherford realising that withdrawing inwards wasn't going to go well and Mariner finding out she's at risk of going all authoritarian.

Let's see what Ep2 brings:

Fun Boimler! Good to see Boimler trying various command styles, and Mariner being the responsible one. Those "bointers" though? Eh, cringe.
Are... are the aliens' ears tied at the top of their heads..?

D'Erica is hiding a pregnancy. That seems kinda important.

Sudden T'Lynn! Very uncomfortable for Rutherford.

Oooh a Solar-Sailboat treasure hunt race, full of danger and excitement? (I want a pet Blazard.)
A "cutiny"? Really?

Uh, ackshually Tendi, some snake species DO eat other snakes (such as black-headed pythons, which make great pets).

D'Erica is pirating for two!

Those gardener bots ordered to be kidnappers though.

T'Lynn upsetting Rutherford by finishing the Sequoia shuttle, because now he can't finish it with Tendi, then destroying it so that Rutherford and Tendi can rebuild it. Classic.

Ah Tendi really does think more like Starfleet than Pirate. Still, she'll be a kick arse auntie (now she's got over her helicopter protection of D'Erica).

A new business opportunity for the Tendis: Wealth disposal for newly post-scarcity Federation members!

And that's that for Ep2. This episode did more Orion exploration which I've been enjoying over the series. Tendi's now back aboard the Cerritos so I'm not expecting much Orion stuff for a few eps. Maybe a couple of references to her time at home.

Oooh pretty TMP effects. It's the parallel universe episode teased in the trailer! How handy that the uniforms are slightly different shades to tell them apart.

A rogue archaeologist playing both sides? I wonder if it's our old friend Petra...

King Billups 😵 And Rikerified Boimler! Otherford seems to have lost his personhood.

Green Or-eye-on queens versus the Blue Or-ee-on patriarchy! Some nice TAS-callback development of the Orions. Wonder if we'll see the orange bunch at some point?

Eeeevil Becky Freeman and her riding crop. Authoritarianism doesn't suit her.

The Ransom pair arguing whilst complimenting each other is a good gag. Carol Freeman ending up at Starbase 80 is both a relief as it seemed like she might have died, but also a big oof because STARBASE 80 YIKES.

Did Rutherford ask Otherford if he was OK with being reprogrammed? Otherford trusted his prime counterpart enough not to flinch when Rutherford began messing with his implants. Not sure if I missed something here.

That Orion medical ship is pretty nifty looking. Wonder if it'll be added to STO?

Heh, other Boimler's PADD (swiped by Prime Boims) has a magazine cover with "The Boimler Effect" on it. Geeky #StarTrekOnline moment: that's the name of a widely-used Trait in the game that was added in after LD Season 1.
