I just watched The Killing, 1956, Stanley Kubrick's first studio film, and it was pretty good, overall.
The way it demolishes the idea of the perfectly planned and timed heist should've left that trope dead, scattered to the winds like loot from a busted old suitcase spilled open on an airport runway caught in the turbulent wash of propeller planes.
Sadly, it did not, and the trope lives on.
