I struggle with my #settler heritage, but I do admire a great many things about my #scottish side. Both my #paternal great grandparents emigrated from #scotland. They were brave, tough people, and I know I inherited a lot of their stubborn determination.

I've always loved the #bagpipes, and hope to see Scotland one day.

Anyway, it’s (near) Thanksgiving 🇺🇸 and it’s St Andrews Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 so here’s something about being an outsider in Scotland and gradually realising it’s become your home. And I’ve completely loved it since I first read it years ago, but I don’t think I’ve shared it here before.

At the bottom of the page is a note mentioning the marriage of Alexander Clacher and Christain Larnach (not sure of that spelling!) on June 11 1720, in #Watten, a small village in #Caithness. My next Scottish recipe (for St Andrew's Day) is Scottish Rum Truffles. The perfect Christmas treat. Serve them to guests or make some to take when visiting friends or family. For children you can replace the rum with orange juice and add orange zest for that chocolate orange flavour.
