🚨 DEFANGING THE DONATION SPAM: How scammers hijack your cute posts 🚨

If you’ve recently posted a viral or interesting photo or a cute video (like a kitten walking down the street) and immediately received a heartbreaking by @waledG or similar which has been send exactly the same message to a lot of people and accounts here reply asking for donations in Gaza or other crisis zones—read this before you feel guilty.

This is NOT a genuine cry for help. It is a highly coordinated, automated SPAM & SCAM tactic tailored for the Fediverse. Here is how it works:

1️⃣ The Bait: Scammers deploy automated bots to crawl popular hashtags (#Cats, #Cute, etc.) or look for media posts gaining quick engagement.
2️⃣ The Hijack: They leave copy-pasted, emotionally charged comments under your post. They don't care about your content; they just want to ride your visibility wave to put their links in front of hundreds of eyes.
3️⃣ The Fraud: While the real-world crisis is devastatingly real, these specific accounts are heavily linked to financial fraud. They often use stolen photos, cloned identities, and fake crowdfunding links where the money goes straight to scam networks, never reaching families in need.

💡 WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
• DO NOT engage or argue with the bot.
• DO NOT click any links.
• REPLY with a warning to protect your followers.
• BLOCK the user immediately.
• REPORT the account so the instance moderators can defederate or ban the malicious server.
