We end this week in 2018 with #sorayorimotooibasho. In this, Noto played Gin Toudou, the head of the Antarctician expedition who has a complicated history with Shirase. The most stoic of Noto's characters here, Toudou is initially presented as an obstacle before slowly unraveling into a deeply hurt woman who wants to protect the loved people of those she cared about.

In 2018, Hanazawa landed herself a great role as Shirase in #aplacefurtherthantheuniverse. Initially the odd girl at school determined to go to Antarctica, Shirase demonstrated a profound hurt, an unusual sense of humor, and a deep conviction towards her new friends, no matter the cost. Being the heart of a series is always a tough ask but Hanazawa gave it her all and delivered an impeccable performance.

2018 saw Minase exploring once more, this time as the excitable Kimari in #sorayorimotooibasho. Part of a civilian expedition to the Antarctic, Kimari proved to be the driving force for many of the characters, even if she was just here for the ride. A way more extroverted character than most Minase roles, she still proved she could play this kind of role and give her just as much depth as her more taciturn characters.

We now go to a frigid 2018, where Hayami held her own in a talented ensemble as Yuzuki in #aplacefurtherthantheuniverse, a young actress who finds herself part of a expedition to Antarctica and taking the first steps into becoming the normal girl she always wanted to be. Hayami starts off Yuzuki with a cold reserve, someone who's been trained to never let her true feelings show, but as she makes friends and opens herself up, her kindness and vulnerabilities shine through.
