  1. @coral I absolutely adore(d) #SolsticeSchool and do hope it’ll be back some day. I spoke at the first one, and volunteered at a couple more!

  3. @jat23 @clemens yes! There's the #SolsticeSchool run by scholar.social, and lots of other things organised by that instance. Worth dropping @researchfairy a follow!

  5. Something I liked about making my own molecule models for my #SolsticeSchool talk a couple of weeks ago was that I could play a little fast and loose with them. In the case of adenosine, the ribose was inconsequential to my point on this slide, so I just kind of jammed the atoms together in *roughly* the right places, but put more attention into the purine part.

Using a molecule builder tool would have been more accurate, but also would have displayed too much irrelevant and distracting info.

  7. Re-recording my #SolsticeSchool mite talk postponed for now because of it being too hot to close the window and turn off the fan; it being Caribana weekend so it's loud outside; and my headphone mic being literally too shitty to function

  9. I did a write-up on my blog for my #SolsticeSchool talk Homosexuality in Premodern #Korea. It's pretty long at over 7,000 words but a scan of the table of contents should give you a broad idea. For those who are attending, see you in a couple hours, and for everyone else, I hope it'll be a helpful and entertaining reference! ljwrites.blog/posts/queer-prem #history #queerHistory

  10. #SolsticeSchool follow-up: no one asked me about my goats, so I didn't get to my back-up slides (which were all cute animal pictures)! Here they are:

  12. The #SolsticeSchool talk was really fun! Really nice to "see" some of my regular fedi-friends in a different place :)

Tomorrow: going to try to get everyone out the door by 7am (eek), local radio interview, BBC Inside Science podcast interview, and then meeting with a super important person from @Paulatics's office to talk about space junk landing in Canada!

(What do I wear for a meeting with a senate staff person?! Guess I'll figure that out after goat milking very early tomorrow...)

  16. Scientific American podcast interview in an hour, #SolsticeSchool talk tonight, BBC Inside Science podcast interview early tomorrow morning.

I hope I can manage to stay coherent and retell the Saskatchewan space junk story well multiple times, while also making clear the terrifying implications of what's happening with rapid commercialization in orbit...

  22. Oh hmmm the biggest thing I had to do today was make my #SolsticeSchool talk and somehow I had 1000 other things that happened instead. Well, I guess I know what I'm working on tonight.

  24. Thanks to all who came to my #SolsticeSchool talk on Queering the Bit. It's going to be an epic project and I can't wait to share more with the world.

In the meantime, here's a reminder of the 4,500 year old queer chat-up line that the ancient god Set(h) allegedly said to a same-sex lover:

"How beautiful are your buttocks, how vital!"

  26. At 20:00 UTC (which is 9pm in the UK) I'll be hosting my #SolsticeSchool talk on celebrating queer contributions to technology over the past several thousand years.

    Yes, I said thousand.

Come join me to hear why I plan for this to be the start of something big.

  27. Just a reminder that Tuesday evening (my time) is my #SolsticeSchool talk for the Fediverse. Sign up here solsticeschool.scholar.social/ to hear the 15 minute version of the space junk falling on Saskatchewan saga, and what that has to do with 1960s international treaties, Starlink, and donuts, and then ask me questions for 45 minutes.

Spoilers (ha) in this thread mastodon.social/@sundogplanets and SciAm article scientificamerican.com/article

  28. Excited for this - although please bear with me - I've been sick this week so not as prepared as I'd like!
