Yesterday's dive in #newquay The prawn has a compound eye with visual units (ommatidia) connecting to the optic nerve. Overlying the ommatidia is the cuticle with is modified to act as a cornea and is thickened to form numerous square facets. These eyes have neither distant nor sharp vision but they do detect movement and has a 360 degree coverage. For all that complexity, all I ever see are a couple of tiny disco balls. #prawn #freedive #snorkel #newquay #cornwall #oceanlife

So, I know these #watches were panned when they were released. I think too many people thought that it was #Bulova trying to cash in on the #Moonswatch. But, I didn't see it that way, I thought the idea of doing ocean themed #divewatches made a lot of sense. Even the idea of doing them in ceramic with rubber straps that incorporate recycled garbage that's been pulled out of the ocean made a lot of sense.
The thing that didn't make a lot of sense was the pricing. They were priced as if they were Moonswatches, which they weren't. Now, if they had a Precisionist movement, then the pricing would have made sense -- at that point it would have been a bargain.
However, a year later, and things have changed. Bulova has dramatically lowered the prices of these watches, making them much more in line with what they should have been in the first place. So, I picked up the Blue Whale #Snorkel watch to see if I liked it. And, yeah, it was very nice, so I used some discounts I had available and purchased the Sea Turtle and Seagull watches.
To me, these are really great casual, weekend wear watches.

The sea is slowly warming up on the South Cornish Coast hovering around the 12 degree mark with 6 meters of visibility. Inachus crab holding tight to its protective snake-locks anemone friend. The second photo is close up of an edible sea urchin (Echinus esculentus). Up close and it is possible to make out its rows of tube feet between its defensive spines. Quite pretty under macro conditions. Finally a fan worm, lovely orange colour. #sealife #urchin #cornwall #ocean #inachus #snorkel

Easing back into the snorkeling now that spring is here. Apart from the hail and poor visibility is was enjoyable. Ocean on the south coast of Cornwall near Mevagissey is around 10 degrees, but at least there is a little sun now.
