  1. Perhaps @Paulatics could pass this toot along to the other Senators?

Another major issue I have with Bill C-22 is the way it would be funded.

Spy-gear is usually rather expensive since some corporation wants to charge at least ten times the actual development costs to keep shareholders happy. They usually cut additional costs by reducing the security features down to a bare minimum.

Instead of paying for the spy-gear out of the police budgets (as it should be) this #SnoopingTax is to be collected from phone and internet providers and I expect the tax to be rather hefty.

Ever wonder why they did it that way?

    My opinion:

Police budgets come from municipal taxes and the #CarneyClass (who can afford more expensive properties, cottages and vacation homes) would be expected to pay more than the working classes (who might be lucky to own one property).
Municipalities do not like to raise taxes which is what they would have to do to pay for the #SnoopingTax.
The #CarneyClass does not like spending money on services used by 95% of the people.
The #CarneyClass might demand that municipalities provide an accounting of how much the snooping costs and why it is necessary.

However, even if phone and internet bills double if C-22 becomes law then the increase would be peanuts compared to the much higher municipal taxes the #CarneyClass would have to pay.
It seems doubtful that 95% of Canadians could manage a doubling of their phone/internet bills.
I do not know anyone who is not hurting financially in these dreadful times.

It does not seem fair to me.
What did anyone expect from a banker?

It would be nice if we had a federal political party that stood up for the middle and working classes and everyone else who is trying their best to survive in these really tough economic times.

Maybe @avilewis could pass this toot to the #FearlessFive (NDP MPs who are not afraid to run in elections)? Perhaps some of those MPs could give feedback to our Senators if C-22 ever gets to Senate committee review.

In fairness, one of the #FearlessFive MPs gave a nice speech in the HOC and did try to express her concerns to the House C-22 committee (even if the process seemed rigged in retrospect - call if #CarneyCourt if you like).

I hope my cynical undertone is not too subtle.
I am so pissed with the present Federal Government.

Remember before you elect a banker as PM again: once a banker, always a banker.
