  1. @401matthall @dougiec3 This is the municipal utility company for the county not the city Sacramento. Also while this is a horrible misuse of data they, SMUD, should not be dissolved because that may launch PG&E in for an attempt to take over and they will price gouge us all as they do in the surrounding counties where SMUD doesn’t operate.

Should #SMUD be held accountable for this?Yes. But, they shouldn’t be dissolved.

  2. The Sacramento police have asked #SMUD to provide it with bulk lists of private customer energy usage #data for years, which the police use to enforce an abusive penalty scheme against owners of properties engaged in residential cultivation of cannabis. #privacy eff.org/cases/asian-american-l

  4. Lovely. We are having a brownout. Power went out briefly, came back on but lights are low and things are flickering. GFCI all popped, AC unit making weird noises. I shut everything down and will wait for #SMUD (power utility) to restore. Ugh. It’s 100 degrees and it’s the hottest time of the day here. Happy Friday! 😡

  5. @DragonFlyEye Maybe my county/area is weird? (Sacramento, California) -- Garbage et al is picked up by the County. Electric service is by publicly-owned #SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District). Natural gas is the only privately owned utility on that list. (And I am *really* looking forward to converting to all-electric, but it's going to take a few years, $$$)

  6. Yikes, more than 340,000 #SMUD customers without power right now. Winds are terrifying.

  7. Wow my entire city pretty much has no power. Crazy winds in sacramento right now. #SMUD

  8. Night #4 with no power, and I still think #SMUD is great and I sure know it's a minor inconvenience in the big scheme of things, but feeling cold and annoyed nonetheless.

  9. My daughter and family lost power on the 31st. SMUD projects the problem will be fixed by the 6th. SMUD will pay for a hotel, $150 a night, AND reimburse for any food in the fridge that goes bad. Yay for SMUD!

  10. @spidaman public utilities should never be run as for profit companies. It’s just insane. It’s like healthcare. There are some things that people simply need and we shouldn’t be gouged for. So grateful we are in a #SMUD location. Only have to deal with PG&E for our gas for our stove and our hot water heater.
