  5. Interesting note from last night's #SleepingInVR test, I noticed a significant difference in battery performance. Before it basically ran entirely flat early.

With the adjustments last night I had roughly 40% battery left.

I can't entirely rule out the impact of initial charge as they were likely both different and I wasn't tracking the starting percentage. A process to adjust in the future.

Overall though seems a large success. Next testing individual variables and also hand tracking.

  7. Planning on another #SleepingInVR experiment tonight. Planning around 2:30am EST tonight.

Focusing on some battery optimizations tonight and also confirming results re: which face gasket works best.

    Specifically:
    - turning off super resolution
    - dropping bit rate to minimum during sleep
    - kiwi face gasket
    - Misc sleep position tweaks

Going to be particularly interesting as I'm not planning on charging extra prior to the sleep instance/going directly from hanging out in VR.

  9. one other note on #SleepingInVR. I've been following an every other day schedule for my sleep and that seems to be minimizing the risk of dependence on VR for sleep.

I remember that was something I ran into last year around february or so when we had those power outages.

Fortunately so far hasn't been an issue/has been going smoothly

  11. I've still got more updates to do, but so far those tweaks have made a good deal difference.

I do need to update my checklist for #SleepingInVR as the one I used last night meant I forgot to turn off super resolution and reduce my bitrate.

This meant that my battery went flat on me before I got up for the day, but only by a few minutes.

Still I would rather have a larger buffer or not have to worry about battery at all.

  13. So with the cooler temperatures outside I've been able experiment some more with #SleepingInVR.

I'm still working with the Quest 2 which is suboptimal, but some optimizations I've made.

    - Switching back to the cloth strap (reduces weigh by some 250g x.X)
    - Using virtual desktop instead of Quest link
    - testing different gasket cover (kiwi for sleep, stock for general use)
    - switching to isopropyl alcohol for cleaning gasket

  15. Finally had my first night back of #SleepingInVR after we got power back from the ice storm.

The night itself in #vrchat was pretty nice. Had a good turnout of folks and it was cozy and a bit exciting. Was something like 5 other folk.

The quality of the sleep was alright, but there was plenty of room to improve. My muscles were sore still from recovering, and I had difficulty finding the right angle for laying. Another issue was temperature regulation, was a bit too hot in my room.

  17. #SleepingInVR notes:
    - Did a skip night as I was starting to notice signs of sleep deprivation. Impacts in fatigue, emotional regulation, and general recall.

    - Falling asleep outside of VR was notably more difficult.

    - My current working guess is that I am falling asleep in VR more easily, but my deep sleep is getting disturbed or such.

    - I suspect that the disruption is possibly related to discomfort or sensory processing. Will do some more experiments to see if I can narrow down.

  19. #SleepingInVR / #Vrchat Adventure log 2023-02-15

    Summary:
Overall this was a very restful evening! I got around 7:35.

Things seem to be continuing to track towards better sleep in #VR than outside.

Had a smaller group this evening, but haven't needed to swap over to a backup instance which is rather nice.

    Rest of notes in thread:

  21. #SleepingInVR / #Vrchat Adventure log.

    Summary:
Had another full night session. Slept about 7 hours 15 minutes. Woke up feeling overall pretty rested.

My body seems to be continuing to rapidly adjusting to #sleeping in #vr To the point that I seem to be getting better sleep -in- VR than outside of it on some days. I might be approaching the point of reducing skip days.

I was also rather touched as apparently there were 5 folk who joined in the session from my sleep group.

  23. I've been collecting(and graphing) various bits of data from my experiments with #SleepingInVR. I figured I would share one of those here.

This is a graph of my length of sleep length in VR overlayed with my total time in #VRChat.

Right now I am manually collecting the data points but am looking at switching to a more automated collection.

One of the things I'm also looking at adding is a measure of sleep -quality-/how rested I feel on waking.

  30. #SleepingInVR in #VRChat adventure log. I'll condense my notes in the thread below to avoid taking over the timeline.

Summary: I slept just around 7hrs 30min last night. The evening didn't go quite as well as the previous one, mostly because my body kept hurting/aching. Likely disability related.

I was also still a bit energetic when I was trying to fall asleep which prob contributed.

Plus side had a decently sized turnout of folk to the session which was nice. ^^

  32. Well I purposefully gave myself a rest day from #SleepingInVR in #vrchat and oddly I can confirm I do in fact feel -worse- outside of it.

I genuinely expected to feel more rested today than I did yesterday. Like even my muscles are similarly cranky, just in different areas. May be contributed by the trapping of moisture, but that is only a hypothesis.

Guess I need to experiment some more as this is very limited data points, but still has interesting implications and questions.

  34. #SleepingInVR in #VRChat

Things have definitely evolved some in the past few days. I've slept in #VR the past two days. Unexpectedly I actually hit a full night's sleep in VR last night. I was thinking that it would be at least several more sessions before I finally hit that point. The night before last I slept 4 hours 38 minutes in VR, last night was 7 hours 30 minutes.

Notes of what I learned in thread below:

  36. Another experiment of #SleepingInVR in #VRChat last night. Slept on and off for around 2hrs 21min.
    2023/02/08

    Notes:
    - overall headset has been maintaining charge -very- well. This seems to confirm some of my previous theories. It is also possible that the reduced sound/display brightness is reducing power consumption enough to keep charge high.

    - I had difficulty sleeping this go around. This was likely compounded by a medication change and also difficulty in finding a good position
