It was an easy way to improve your digitally-painted skintones by making your midtone warmer and darker than you'd expect, then erasing your highlight layer on top. Gave it a really warm core shadow, it looked really good. More stylized than photogreal. I think the guy was working on a cute girl in a bikini or something barely-there.
