    El Departamento de Justicia de Estados Unidos acusó a un estudiante de la Universidad Estatal de San José por amenazas de atentados y mensajes de odio contra mexicanos y otros grupos.

    El Departamento de Justicia de Estados Unidos (DOJ) anunció el arresto de Ziheng «Tony» Fang, estudiante de posgrado de la Universidad Estatal de San José (SJSU), acusado de proporcionar información falsa y realizar amenazas relacionadas con presuntos atentados masivos en el campus universitario, además de difundir mensajes de odio dirigidos contra mexicanos, judíos, musulmanes y ciudadanos chinos.

    De acuerdo con una denuncia penal presentada el 9 de julio ante un tribunal federal del Distrito Norte de California, Fang, de 30 años, compareció por primera vez el 10 de julio tras ser detenido por autoridades federales.

    La investigación señala que el acusado habría colocado mensajes con amenazas de ataques masivos en baños del campus universitario, generando preocupación entre estudiantes, docentes y personal administrativo.

    Mensajes incluían amenazas contra mexicanos

    Según el expediente judicial, uno de los mensajes fue descubierto el 5 de noviembre de 2025 en un baño para hombres de la universidad.

    El texto advertía sobre una supuesta bomba y contenía símbolos nazis, entre ellos varias esvásticas.

    En otro mensaje localizado en el mismo sitio se leía: «Maten a todos los judíos, musulmanes, chinos y mexicanos» y hacía referencia a presuntos atentados programados para los días 11 y 12 de noviembre.

    Las autoridades indicaron que las huellas dactilares de Fang fueron encontradas en uno de los documentos colocados en la pared.

    Investigación relaciona al acusado con más de 20 amenazas

    La denuncia sostiene que desde octubre de 2024 la policía de la universidad documentó más de 20 incidentes relacionados con mensajes de odio y amenazas escritos en baños masculinos y de género neutro del campus.

    En varios casos se advertía sobre ataques con bombas, armas de fuego o cuchillos e incluso se señalaban fechas específicas para su ejecución.

    La investigación del Buró Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) concluyó que Fang ingresó a edificios donde posteriormente aparecieron amenazas en 16 de los 18 casos que requerían acceso mediante tarjeta electrónica.

    Además, grabaciones de videovigilancia lo ubican entrando y saliendo de los baños donde aparecieron algunos de los mensajes poco antes de que fueran descubiertos.

    Amenazas alteraron las actividades universitarias

    Las autoridades señalaron que la Oficina del Presidente de la Universidad Estatal de San José emitió diversas alertas por correo electrónico y mensajes de texto para advertir a la comunidad universitaria sobre las amenazas.

    Como consecuencia, algunos profesores suspendieron clases presenciales o trasladaron sus actividades al formato virtual, mientras que estudiantes y trabajadores manifestaron temor por acudir al campus.

    La denuncia también señala que, durante las fechas mencionadas en los mensajes, varios edificios permanecieron prácticamente vacíos debido a la preocupación generada por las amenazas.

    FBI y Departamento de Justicia mantienen el proceso

    El caso fue anunciado por el fiscal federal del Distrito Norte de California, Craig H. Missakian; la fiscal adjunta de la División de Derechos Civiles del Departamento de Justicia, Harmeet K. Dhillon; y el agente especial a cargo de la oficina del FBI en San Francisco, Scott Schelble.

    Actualmente, Fang permanece bajo custodia federal y su próxima audiencia está programada para el 13 de julio, cuando se llevará a cabo la designación formal de su defensa legal.

    El Departamento de Justicia recordó que una denuncia penal constituye únicamente una acusación formal y que toda persona imputada se presume inocente hasta que un tribunal determine su responsabilidad mediante una sentencia. –sn–
