I often hold back on disclosing privacy tips because privacy advocates are so far outnumbered that it seems more likely that privacy adversaries will take action to thwart or shut down the angle / hack or facility.

Among the tiny demographic of privacy proponents almost none of them are committed to privacy. Trapped in the #TyrannyOfConvenience as articulated by Tim Wu. A majority of the so called pro-privacy crowd are ppl that complain as they login to Facebook (and make excuses for using it) ... or they blindly accept deceiving & compromised privacy theatre tools so long as they don’t require a change of habit. E.g. brainwashed to think #DuckDuckGo is aligned with the privacy movement. No, #DDG is just exploiting fools.

The sad state of it is evident simply by stepping into a #threadiverse c/privacy community, where a majority of posts come from accounts hosted on nodes like #lemmyWorld & #shItjustWorks even if the community itself is on a defederated node.

It’s hard to imagine privacy movements making much progress when the orgs that claim to have a privacy mission will litter their site with FB and Twitter then reverse proxy it through CF.

@runedancetwo #ShitJustWorks is a #Cloudflare site, so it should be avoided. That means it’s centralized by a US tech giant who sees everything you do on that instance, sees your username, password, DMs, etc. It also means that site is exclusive. When I visit that node I get a broken CAPTCHA because of a flawed IP reputation judgement. So their “Everyone is welcome” slogan is bullshit. Their “99% renewable energy” claim is also bogus because it’s CF’s energy consumption that matters not their own server’s. And CF is not green energy. CF wastes energy by pushing graphical CAPTCHAs.

I know this is a bit #offtopic and only related to my personal discovery of the #Lemmy site #ShitJustWorks but I wanted to let you know that the site I use on Lemmy has been actively archived lately by #WBM.

It started on June 6, then from June 8 to June 11 the site was archived. It's June 11 today too unless you live far to the east from Europe.

Got archived 2 times on June 8, and that was the only time the site got archived more than 1 time in total.

Personally I agree with you that doing no federation can be very dangerous...in regards when attempting to protect the users unless they are "Free Speech Absolutists" like a very well known billionaire...

Is there also an easy way to rely on myself to check who they federate with so you don't have to check it for me?
