Ship AIS
Major search & rescue operation is ongoing in the western English Channel for a possible sunken fishing vessel. Two SAR aircraft and three lifeboats and at least six or seven fishing boats are searching an area approximately 45km south-west of Plymouth.

Radio Propagation
Continuing high pressure over northern Europe is producing good tropospheric radio propagation between the UK and northern France.
AIS signals on 162 MHz are extending well beyond the normal range.

Ship AIS Decoding
I've been trying to decode and upload Ship AIS messages to seven or eight ship tracking websites for a number of years, but have always had issues with AIS aggregators such as AIS Dispatcher crashing many times per day, requiring manual restarts and a lot of frustration. This is probably because they were made so long ago and don't run properly under Windows anymore, or they just don't like me.
It's finally gotten to a head today, so instead of getting angry, I vibe-coded a Python script to do the job in place of AIS Dispatcher, which only took about an hour, plus another couple of hours fine tuning.
Decoding of the twin audio channels and demodulation all takes place within Python at 96 kHz. Decoded AIS UDP packets are sent to up to ten destinations. The advantage of spooling up a vibe-coded application is that you can tweak things to get closer to perfection!

China/Taiwan ๐
Note: These events have been witnessed several times over the past few months. Someone online suggested that they're "spoofed" objects and may not all be actual boats. Time will tell.

Meanwhile, between China and Japan in the East China Sea...
Some sources suggest this is practice for a blockade of Taiwan.

Radio Propagation
Good tropospheric propagation at VHF is allowing extended reception of AIS signals between The Bay of Biscay and the UK (>500km).
It seems that not many amateur operators are taking advantage of the opening yet...

Radio propagation:
Strong to very strong tropospheric radio propagation is continuing around the coasts of Europe. I am receiving AIS signals from near the NW corner of Spain at ~1016km (~549nm).
Tropospheric radio propagation is a phenomenon that mostly affects VHF and UHF radio frequencies.
