I had planned to go to my new friend at Nenthead today to continue teaching dry stone walling. However, he's not feeling well and anyway, it's snowing.

Last night, I thought I would go over the other side of the dale and do some work for Neville instead but not in this weather.

Even in my usual rubbish photo through a window, you can see the flakes. Most of it is horizontal as the wind is so strong. #Teesdale #Snow #SemiAlpine

Around midnight last night there was a dusting of snow. It's gone this morning of course.

This morning, I watched a female Lapwing approach to within 2 metres of the kitchen window at the back of the house. It poked in the soil and gobbled up a large worm.

The land here gets nothing in the way of pesticides and only cattle manure for fertiliser, nothing artificial. You don't have to dig deep to find a multitude of invertebrates. #Teesdale #SemiAlpine

What we're waking up to in Upper Teesdale this morning.

We are viewing a house in the Eden Valley this afternoon so that means going up and over into Cumbria. Not leaving until noon, this is not forecast to last long, should be OK. #Snow #SemiAlpine #NPennines

Harwood can be extraordinarily beautiful on a day like this with snow lying and sun and no wind.

Delivery driver dropped off a parcel then took some 360° views, just taking it all in, smiling. He says drivers like coming out here as they're allowed extra time between drops because it's so remote. Less pressure than town or city driving. #Teesdale #Snow #SemiAlpine

It's been grey here for (feels like) weeks now. There's a ferocious wind, with sleet. So bad, yesterday we went to Alston for some better weather!

Our search for a house includes Shropshire, there's a remote house there at less than half the altitude.

There's also a couple of abandoned lead mines close by, with a trust that needs people to look after them. Home from home. #NPennines #SemiAlpine

Noticed it had been opened a while ago and saw the culprit was leaving mouse droppings, not a rat, so decided to leave it as 'sacrificial' so it wouldn't chew through anything else.

Not sure if it's eating these or making a nest. Maybe both. #SemiAlpine

There's a possibility of frost up here in the North Pennines tonight so I'm not taking any chances with the young leaves of the potatoes.

Why is he posting a pic of some pathetic looking daffodils, you ask? Yours have probably bloomed and now going over.

This is a Big Thing for us here as none of these bloomed last year, they all stayed blind. A few days of sun without the constant rain of last year has made the difference.

Here at 430m asl we are just below the snow line. Another snow shower has just passed and as I'm posting this we're now enveloped in cloud.

The other side of Harwood rises higher, Bowes Close on the B6277 opposite is just over 450m. The hills behind the house, Cow Rake Rigg and Widdybank Fell, rise to flattish tops of between 500m and 530m.

It's another snowy day in Harwood with a strong North East wind. Forecast said there wouldn't be much snow but we have our own climate. #SemiAlpine

It's cold, windy and hail is rattling down. There were about a dozen goldfinch in the rowan tree until I sneezed. Half a dozen black grouse flew over from Unthank direction but didn't stop. Out the back of the house there's a hare backed up against a big clump of rough grasses keeping out of the wind.

I've planted potatoes and other veg but nothing is growing yet. Daffodils still going and just seen the first swallow fly by. On its way to somewhere warmer probably. #SemiAlpine

I'm back at the Binks for Craig and Tracey. It's just a short walk from the house. Once this small gap is done I have a contract for a 300 metre rebuild at Bowlees farm. That will start next week and take me most of the summer as I won't be working every day.

There's a cold north wind blowing, about 4°C and it's misty, almost fine rain so I'd better keep moving to keep warm.

News from Harwood. Unthank will soon be available to rent, just heard today that tenant is moving to another Raby property in Middleton-in-Teesdale.

That's Unthank on the right before Raby spent £650k doing it up. Perspective is a bit odd in this photo, it looks quite close there.

If you're tempted to apply for the tenancy of this, I have to admit, quite idyllic scene, be warned. The neighbours are a nightmare.

Snow among the snowdrops this morning. The snowdrops are just going over and the daffodils are not out yet. I have seed tatties and veg seed but I daren't plant anything outside yet. It's not much snow, there's a dusting on the high fells.

When I told Craig, my farmer neighbour, I was planning a veg garden he just chuckled a bit. He didn't fill me with confidence. #SemiAlpine #Gardening
