The Rossarol is always worth a visit 😀! But be aware: if you don't master your buoyancy there's chance to hit some explosives...and they will then hit back you 💥💣!

Went diving for the first time this season yesterday, here in northern Greece. Water was already 20°C at surface, but 16°C at 30m. It was "a bit chilly" even with a 5mm wetsuit + 2mm over-shorty, but fortunately it was sunny outside. Saw lots of Antiopella cristata, a few small lobsters in their holes, a few curious octopuses going out in plain daylight and looking at us, and LOTS of fish, small and big.

Pictures will come later, after we've edited them to fix up the colours a bit.

#caddisfly larvae everywhere. They are interesting insects. They live for a year or more in the water. There they are astonishing architects for their cases.

If you look close, you can see a lot of Hydras on the pondweed. They are indeed special creatures. They are not ageing and don't die of age! They regenerate all the time. Very small but also very exceptional 🤩!

@scubadivers Went for the season's first dive this weekend in Ammouliani, Greece, with @slomo . The water was quite cold, 17°C on average, around 18°C on surface, we measured as cold as 15°C at 25m.

We saw several Antiopella Cristata nudibranchs ♥, moray eels, octopuses, two huge Dentex Dentex, a scorpionfish, and a school of tuna.

Unfortunately I had to sit out one dive because my ear had started hurting (it's OK again now) so I missed the octopuses, the scorpionfish, and the tuna 😭

#RotterSee, 3m “soup” visibility, typical for #spring. A closer look reveals some funny fellows, especially at this time of the year. Camouflage is everything! Although, if you walk through the lake with one of these cases...very inconspicuous 🙈 ! Everyone has their own architectural style!

Returning from our #cavediving adventure in #Mexico #Yucatan ❤️. Barely known is the beauty of the underwater #cenotes there. It is truely a wonder of nature. I feel honored to be able to spend time there underwater 😍.

What I really like in Os is his humble manner. The guy does dives down to 150m in remote areas. Expeditions in caves without seeing light for weeks.

But he is also a very good teacher. And you can see from look in his eyes that he just loves #diving. No matter what.

Another fun day of scuba diving logged in the books. Today I am pretty much adjusted to the new time zone and over jet lag.

We dived three sites – Pink Thila, Haleema Haa and Hithadhoo Corner. The first two dives were executed in the morning after breakfast and we were back by lunch time. After lunch, we rested for a bit and then executed the third dive of the day. All three dives were spectacular! I was memorized by the copious amounts of coral boomies that host tons of small and colorful fish.

Visibility was more than 100ft during the first two dives. For the third dive, we went to look for Manta Rays again. However, the weather changed a bit – visibility diminished and still no Manta Rays.

We will try again tomorrow for Mantas!

Black and White Underwater – Maldives

The underwater world is full of vibrant colors. As an underwater image-maker, sometimes we need to light our subject to bring out these exciting and rich colors. Occasionally, it is better to go back to basics and produce black & white images. Photographers might do this by shooting film, setting a digital camera to black & white, or converting the image in post.

As some of you might know, I am a member of a NYC dive club called the Big Apple Divers. (You can find out more about our dive club here.) Each month a group of underwater photographers and videographers gather to discuss underwater photography and share our images. Normally we meet at a local bar but due to the pandemic we are meeting by video conference.
