Frolicking through the Best Novella Hugo nominees—in Olivia Waite's "Murder by Memory," I find this:

Arcaelit daily life is fantastically better than the best life that all the money and power of Earth could buy. And yet, it's the average for quintillions of TTMA signatories (the Arcaelits). Safety and comfort aren't Saki and Sinóle's conflict nor their virtues.
A few thousand lightyears in any direction you'll encounter non-signatory worlds. Or, as the Arcaelits say, the Pre-Arcaelits. Mere knowledge of the Arcaelits' organizing force, TTMA, is known to cause spontaneous total revolution. Non-signatory worlds and worldlikes cower in silence as so-called rulers pretend to their subjects or cult members kept in ignorance.

#TheExpanse is a good show I think.
However, I don't feel it's particularly original. It feels like Babylon 5 and Star Trek - perhaps more B5.
There are plenty of cliche pieces of dialogue, like a know what retort someone is going to make before they say it.
And the themes are generally seen-it-before.
It's nothing new. But I'm enjoying it so far.
