  1. Hard Rain: Out now!

“A fine piece of storytelling. It held me all the way through.”

You can now get hold of my latest novel, Hard Rain, in three formats: paperback, e-book, and audiobook.

It’s a second book featuring Ruth and Jack Rambler (from Codename Hirondelle), but it is a standalone story. Blurb:

The Lake District, 1957. DS Ruth Rambler, recently promoted to CID, has her first murder case. The body of a well-dressed young man has been found, shoeless, in a cave. Who was he, and how did he get there?

Her investigations take her all over the National Park—and to the coast, where the nuclear research facility at Windscale is still expanding. Could the man in the cave have something to do with the elusive head of security? What secrets are hidden in the smoke that begins to billow from one of the chimneys?

When a second body turns up, she has to juggle two cases while avoiding unwanted attention from certain quarters…

You can read more about it on the Questions & Answers page.

As always, I tried to create a nice artefact for the paperback version. It’s “trade” or “airport” sized (6”x9″) with generous margins and a readable font size. I’ve used very similar formatting to Codename Hirondelle, so if you have both they’re a kind of matched set. Once again, my younger daughter drew the cover illustration.

The paperback ISBN is 978-1-0683047-5-0 and you should be able to order it anywhere.*

The e-book is available through Amazon — it is DRM-free. Link below.

If you are very anti-Amazon, get in touch with me and we can arrange something via PayPal, and I can email you an ePub.

The audiobook, as previously noted, is available through Amazon/Audible and the Apple Books app. It is read by the author.

See my Books page for details of my other novels. If you do read and enjoy one of my books, please drop a five-star review.

*I should point out, however, that if you do buy it from anywhere other than Amazon, I get virtually zero in terms of royalties. I tried to keep the price reasonable, so there’s nothing left after the bookseller cut and Amazon’s cut and the printing costs. I could have added a pound or two to the price, but then it probably wouldn’t have been worth it because it would price people out.

It’s worth pointing out that in terms of royalties, I get far more for the audiobook than I do the other versions.
