  1. In today's #RunAmanda equipment fails:

    - wrong gloves
    - no neck/face gaiter
    - no glasses

    Check the wind speed, friends!!!

  2. #RunAmanda, Polar Express edition

Funny looking shoes, but I still got some training in. Benefits of living on low traffic volume road - streets have names but the plows don't prioritize you.

Fuck you, winter, you can't beat me!!!

Night gear jellyfish vest FTW (h/t @luis_in_brief for the rec)

  3. Another #RunAmanda session - a few early winter gear upgrades prepping for colder temps paid off today.

Found a nice rhythm and the immediate shock of cold air vastly improved the vascular regulation imbalance I woke up with.

Sky was blue, but the roads were firm, sanded, crunchy, and cold enough to be challenging.

  4. Another #RunAmanda session - turns out I get cranky when left indoors too long, which everyone else knows but I conveniently forget too much.

Slushy, snowy, icy, with a bit of mud thrown in, but still warmer. The kind of day you don't want to be out on the roads too much. You know, my ideal 💖

Finished up "Operation Mincemeat" and now listening to "Hey Hun". From strategic deception in war to systems of white supremacist MLM, we go!

  5. Finally made enough space and energy in the day for #RunAmanda time - planning out the next streak because it annoyingly seems to be good for all the brain and body things.

Until then, enjoying the snow and prepping for the next storm (red sky at morning!)

    #running #vermont

  6. Well, that's a wrap for that streak, folks 💛

Day 41 of #RunAmanda was cancelled when I woke up with a migraine at midnight that failed to transition to a runnable state before end of day.

I never expected 5 9's, between viruses, migraines I've lived with my whole life, and generally allowing for a well lived existence in many directions. If this episode wraps by tomorrow AM, I'll start again and see where the year takes me.

  7. Day 40 of #RunAmanda - blue skies, snowy streets on the shade, and slushy puddles in the sun. Perfect winter conditions 🩵

    #vermont #running

  8. Day 39 of #RunAmanda - initial streak achievement unlocked! I ran at least a mile every day from the day before US Thanksgiving until New Year's Day.

Today's run was quick, and I'm glad I met my goal. I'll keep going as long as it feels good and I stay healthy.

  9. Day 38 of #RunAmanda - last run of 2023 and one day out from current streak goal!

It finally turned back to New England winter here, with snowy roads and frosted trees ❄️🩵

    #vermont #running

  10. Day 37 of #RunAmanda - two days left of my original streak goal, and I have now successfully dragged every person from my household out with me at least once.

My partner and I found some dry-enough trails this morning off some not-too-muddy roads to get a short run in. Bridges were either washed to the side by recent creek rise, or moved for the season.

  11. Day 36 of #RunAmanda - went first thing on vacation AM, and had a running buddy join me 💖

I've been working her entire life to teach my kid how to slow down her breathing and she rejects every possible method. Apparently she finally taught herself in x-country this year because she didn't want to sound so winded during drills 😂🥳

  12. Day 35 of #RunAmanda - yet again confirming that human-accelerated climate change sucks, as the 45F+ and foggy in December continues.

My "short runs, low commitment" are getting a little longer with zero planning. I've decided to continue my streak past New Year's, barring COVID, flu, or other unforseen unsafe barriers. The minimum mileage is still short enough to combine with derby workouts, and I have my basement skate space back 💖🥳

  13. Day 34 of #RunAmanda - visibility was absolute shit, due to weather and headlamp malfunction.

Reminds me why I gave up singletrack 24 hour racing. I'm too old to play "Is it Root, Rut, Ridge, Rock or Puddle?"

    #vermont #running

  14. Day 33 of #RunAmanda was warmer (boo, softer roads) but left in time for both sunset and moonrise ✨

    #running #vermont

  15. Day 32 of #RunAmanda was perfect weather - cloudy, cool, and just solid enough mud to provide a decent surface.

Found a new hill to run up on the out, making the back a longer down hill. Creeks are still higher from snow and rain.

    #running #vermont

  16. Day 31 of #RunAmanda may not have snow on the ground, but there are flurries in the air!

I've been running for a full month now, so the harder part will be knowing when to stop. If I go past New Year's Day, I'll need to reassess my criteria and goals.

Happy Eve for those who it is an eve ❄️

  17. Day 30 of #RunAmanda was squeezed between a trip to the climbing gym and some festive celebrations.

Warming up again soon, but the roads were still solid. Fingers crossed for a cold fronts and snowy nights. If the ground stays bare, I might find a mountain to run down next week.

  18. Day 29 of #RunAmanda

Day after run + 2 hour practice - 1.5 hours on skates for last night of rookie's bootcamp = slow and steady

Chillier than normal again, so adjusting layers back to sub-freezing temp. Found the moon and some brand new #VermontPublic socks waiting for me.

    #vermont #running

  19. Day 28 of #RunAmanda

Quick quick quick quick feet and distance 💚

Last night of Rookies Boot camp - time to invite some new community and league members into GMRD 💚🥳

    #vermont #running #RollerDerby

  20. Day 27 of #RunAmanda - yeesh. Another downtown run at the end of the day, but quick and got the minimum distance in. Was a relief to see how dry it was after the surge of flooding on Monday.

Tomorrow going to get another quick one in before last #RollerDerby practice of 2023, then can go for some longer runs next week.

    #vermont #running

  21. Day 26 of #RunAmanda - went on the minimum distance out-and-back before #RollerDerby practice on pavement, with my fastest split so far (sub 10:00/mile for first time in years probably)

Turns out that running in the slog on hills is good for training after all.

    #running #vermont

  22. Day 25 of #RunAmanda was thankfully soggy but not impassable.

Thank you #VPR for your flooding and local reporting on emergency actions and support.

We can't call them 100 year floods anymore 💔

  23. Day 24 of #RunAmanda was predictably boggy and gray, whilst tomorrow will be sloggy and warm enough for shorts. Blech.

Short out and back, but not the shortest. I'll be scouting new routes in the next two weeks for off-skates training for GMRD.

We're having a hard time getting dedicated practice space scheduled more than 30 days at a time with our regular venue, so trying to plan more options for group training.

  24. Day 23 of #RunAmanda did happen, but posting was delayed.

Don't let the smile fool you. Gorgeous blue skies and warmer temps yet again show I am a foul weather runner. Looking forward to the storm coming in the next few days.

    #vermont #running

  25. Day 22 of #RunAmanda proved yet again that you don't have to want to do something to still do it.

    🌹Roses and 🥀Thorns:
🥀 The clear weather makes for grumpy muddy starts.
🌹 At least the sunset was amazing 💖💖
🥀 Wicked tired, which might be the end of a very intensive timeframe at work, with a LOT of socio-emotional organizational labor. Super rewarding, honored to do it, and also it's been a sprint.
🌹Could also be yesterday's round 2 of the Lyme Disease vaccine Trial.

    #vermont #running

  26. Day 21 of #RunAmanda

Late night at #RollerDerby and crunch crunch schedule again meant the shortest of runs to meet the mark, but also my fastest splits for distance thus far. So....yay?

At last night's practice, I noticed that my endurance and leg strength has improved! So yay!

    #running #vermont

  27. Actual Day 20 of #RunAmanda

Gorgeous fresh powder over the firmer road base. Had planned on heading out for a loop on skis, but my last half was sleet in the face. A good quick run before practice tonight.

    #vermont #running

  28. Day 19 of #RunAmanda

Bitter cold wind in the open, with thawed roads from the sun. Frozen mud in the shade. They overplowed the roads, which we'll regret in about a week. Setting sun laid out gorgeous colors over the ranges.

Still short, as it's been a stressful EOY wrap-up. Missed #RollerDerby tonight to recover, and get to skate it out tomorrow 💚

    #running #vermont

  29. Day 18 of #RunAmanda was absolutely as much fun as I was hoping. Less time that I had wanted, but still so much better than yesterday in the rain and puddles.

Guess I really am a corgi.

  30. Day 18 of #RunAmanda, a preview

Well this is going to be fun ❄️❄️❄️❄️
