An LP’s worth of tunes.

So after almost four hours in line, I reached the front and the RSD releases. Thankfully, all the ones I was hoping to find were still there, though a couple were down to one or two copies by that point.

I picked up my top two priorities: the first-ever reissue of Travis Biggs’ often-sampled “Solar Funk,” and “Wave to the WOOniverse,” a posthumous collection of unreleased bits and pieces by the great Bernie Worrell, augmented by a slate of collaborators.

Thanks to the staff at Josey Records in Dallas keeping it all smooth and organized, and for the patience and camaraderie of all who turned out this morning, despite the rain!

I own thousands of records including plenty of novelty pressings but I’ve never seen this before.

Picked up Kate Bush’s #RSD24 single ‘Eat The Music'. On one side it's white vinyl. On the other... it's a full colour picture!

I found out about this album a year or two ago because of the Robert Fripp connection. It was the hardest one to find today, limited to 1,500 copies worldwide, which is a small run for RSD. The price was eye-watering for a single album, (it must be the most I’ve ever paid for a single record), but listening now, no regrets. Such a great album. And it’s red!

Big shout-out to @henrytcasey for getting me the Lost in Translation #RSD24 vinyl. I’m very scared at what Seattle stores will be like today with Pearl Jam so I’m extremely grateful.

And here I thought a thunderstorm and a heavy downpour would dissuade folks from coming out. Packed parking lot and a line all the way out and around the building here at Josey Records. And it’s not even 8 am yet.

Side point : I have this record already, picked it up 30 years ago for about £2 when people weren’t particularly into Sparks or vinyl, and got Ron & Russell to sign it, it’s fluorescent yellow and sounds incredible.

I bought six records for #RSD24 #rsd which is a lot, plus I picked up five records for other people. And 2024 prices hurt. This was the most outrageous price: Double vinyl, €143! I did not purchase.

Back when not much was available on vinyl I used to love RSD. Sadly it’s become a bit of a major label shovelfest so I won’t be visiting today BUT record shops are still the best shops and I love them so much.
