  1. Not to be outdone by someone somewhere putting Linux on a 30-year-old processor, Dmitry Grinberg managed to get it running “on” Intel’s very first microprocessor, the 40-year-old Intel 4004.

    Linux was written for the i386 (Intel 80386) architecture originally. How did he get it running on something almost twenty years older that wasn’t forward-compatible? How did 32-bit code run on a 4-bit microprocessor? Well, it took some creative engineering, let’s say. I don’t want to spoil the article for you.
