  1. First, my article on the making of the ethnographic film Hopa lide and the question of Romani representation in documentary cinema has been published in Visual Anthropology Review.

The article explores collaborative filmmaking as a response to dominant portrayals of Roma and examines how audiovisual practice can generate anthropological knowledge. Free access for #ResearchGate users.

  2. I've never been a heavy user (but it serves me up some interesting papers from time to time), but is #ResearchGate sort of super buggy now? I've been landing on pages without CSS, links for some pages have been just hanging forever... are they alright?

  3. 🌍🔥 Breaking news: Global warming is now racing against time! But don't worry, you can't read about it because #ResearchGate decided climate change is too much for your delicate eyes. 😅🔒 Access denied to both knowledge and cooler temperatures! 🥶🚫

  4. 🚀 Oh joy, another groundbreaking article hidden behind a digital restraining order! 🎉 Navigating #ResearchGate feels like trying to access a top-secret bunker with a paperclip and a prayer 😂. Pro tip: just pretend you read it; no one will know the difference. 🤷‍♂️

Jeg starter altid med WebOfScience. Der er adgang gennem bibliotekerne (Statsbiblioteket, bl.a).
Jeg finder også mange relevante ting i #researchgate.

  6. Ah yes, the classic "solving a mystery in ten seconds" 🕵️‍♂️, except the only thing you discover is your own IP address 🚫. Apparently, #ResearchGate thinks letting you in is as dangerous as the Bermuda Triangle 🌐✈️.

  7. Let's break down "peer-reviewed publication": Everyone and their professor has an academic journal (all happy to accept my $600-$3000 publication fee) and pre-print sites are abundant, so the latter isn't a barrier except for cost. But the former is sorely in need of reform, and need not cost anything. #ResearchGate/#arXiv meets crowdsourcing: It's partly a thing (#Qeios) but can benefit from existing respected players to dethrone a broken model.

  10. Quick question for the #AcademicFedi: I was recently reminded that I have a #ResearchGate account that I haven't updated in such a long time that I was still supposed to be doing a postdoc in Germany...
So I try to log in, discover that it's using my old German address, switch to the backup address, log in, update the affiliation, and then think "wait, but why am I keeping this"?

So I ask you: is there any good reason why I should not delete this account?

    Opinion or boosts welcome 😉

  16. I am slowly starting to dislike websites like #ResearchGate or #SciProfiles. They build a platform, allow way too low-barrier linking of publications with authors - and leave it up to the researchers of doing the curation work or leave stuff wrong. This allows freeloaders to link their author profile to random work that they did not contribute to, padding their perceived impact. This is probably more of a problem in countries where first- and family names are not as unique, but it should be addressed. This will be a huge pile of shit soon, too big to tidy up.

  21. Just deleted my academia.edu account, moving to hcommons.org and

  22. New Terms and Conditions of #academia.edu are simply unacceptable. I’ll try to move things to #ResearchGate and, hopefully, to #KnowledgeCommons (hcommons.org) and then very probably delete my academia account completely.

  23. 🎉 Congratulations to the #ResearchGate team for discovering a revolutionary way to regenerate spinal cords... by not letting anyone read about it! 🚫🔗 Looks like they've finally achieved immortality by being perpetually unavailable. 👏🥳

  25. @ombialik Interesting! I can definitely get much more than just 25% of what I need or want to read via either my Dutch university or a major German research library for which I have a free reader card. I love #OpenAccess and have published more than one OA paper myself, but I am not sure about #preprints unless they are part of open peer-review. I now see student papers relying too much on preprints & other 'drafts' from platforms like #ResearchGate — and it doesn't help with quality.

  26. 🎉✨ Behold, the groundbreaking research on quantum brain #dynamics that's as accessible as a hermit crab's diary 📚🚫! With #ResearchGate playing bouncer, your brain's next revolutionary leap is stuck at the velvet rope of Ray IDs and error codes. 🙃🔒

  27. Having become the cogniscenti using #ResearchGate as a replacement for #LinkedIn I'm conflicted about its gatekeeping without a commensurate benefit. Reference parsing is nice but as far as I can tell I need to get a DOI elsewhere. This is prevalent:

    ...and waiting, waiting...

  28. #ResearchGate: Do you *want* research on your service, or not? #Zenodo is much better btw.

Thanks for requesting the presence of my DOI (without offering to generate one for me) and ensuring a suitable disclaimer is made about my preprint lack of peer review (but have you seen some of the crap that makes it to publication).

...btw nice ad for photons (*cough * uppity snobs)

  29. #Researchgate report: nice to know a few years into retirement, my #research is still having an impact, hopefully making a positive difference 😊

  30. Hey #Fediverse, I'm eagerly waiting for the next release of #Bonfire.

I hope that they will publish stable version anytime soon and start to federate. I think this will be my venue and replacement for other services like #ResearchGate and #LinkedIn. They have #ORCiD and #openalex plugins.

    openscience.network/@pangolin

Currently, they are looking for volunteers who can help to translate. So if you speak several languages, don't hesitate to help this project.

  31. I received a notification from #ResearchGate today, that an paper authored by me has been published. Only thing is: It's fake #AISlop.
The topic is related to stuff I have published in the past. Half of my "coauthors" are really former collaborators, the other half are made up/unknown.

This thing leaves me really clueless. What's the point of all this? Just inflating citations of other works?

  32. 🔍 #ResearchGate is at it again, proving that even Sherlock Holmes couldn't crack their error codes 📚🔒. With access denied, we can only assume the real "hidden tracker" is the article itself, lost in the digital ether 🤷‍♂️✨.

  33. 🎭 Oh, the irony! ResearchGate's magnum opus on #boredom and sadistic aggression is so gripping, it's hidden behind digital bars. 🍇 Guess they wanted to spare us from dying of curiosity or aggression-induced boredom. 📚🔒

  34. 🎉 Breaking News: #ResearchGate has discovered the ultimate way to boost #productivity – by blocking everyone from accessing their site! 🚫🌐 Apparently, hitting a wall of error messages is exactly what we needed to not read about 'Xiaofeng Wang'. Who knew? 😂

  36. So this weekend was another first for me 🥇. Someone I have never met sent me a message on #researchgate, which I'm happy about because I too use researchgate to contact people 💬. Usually asking specific questions about papers.
However, this person added two articles to the message and kindly asked me to include one of them in one of my future publications.

    Is this common?
