I think what many don't seem to realize when, they in earnest say "if you/they really need help, they can just ask" beyond 1. the many requests that are indeed made & never answered with assistance or 2. when instead of actual assistance given, someone with more power asserts that the person in need has different needs & imposes their "solution" thusly causing more harm,
is that all of these 3.detailed request formulation, 4. making & then, especially if it's in person given, 5. the great work needed in preparing for a visit &/or in 6.pushing aside other tasks to make sure the money's sent can be used best in the help task asked on. Then there's sometimes a heavy burden of time & energy on 7. the task itself & 8.others on recovery/cleanup from the task completed &/or 9. how sick the person was from the delay of said need being met..... Beyond the 10.trolling online &/or in person en route...&if we're on government poverty aid programs & the request is for money, that reporting a significant amount of money will cause trouble.

#Disabled folks almost all having less energy to start with, as continual care of our medical conditions takes some of said energy, all the first 10 of these items are why it's not an easy thing to "just ask for help".
